I love bread sauce but only home made and you can't use white sliced bread it has to be a proper loaf crusts cut off and allowed to stale a couple of days. This year I tried brown bread for a change and liquidised the cooked onion into the milk. Interesting change. Usually I use white bread and discard the onion after infusing the milk. Cloves and a bayleaf for spicing. Yum Yum and excellent cold as well.

If you ever find yourself near a Booths, ive seen fresh horseradish for sale in the larger shops :)

TY - but, I have never heard of Booths - not here in South Wales valleys!
  • I use bread sauce when I make a chicken and ham pie, top with mash or pastry - yum.

If you are ever in Cardiff then the veg stall nearest to the St Mary Street entrance of the covered market sometimes sells horseradish

is there a point to it? do you love it, hate it or not fussed? it's seems a bit too much like tasteless mush to me... gak

Depends if you are buying packet, commercial, processed rubbish or fresh homemade (quick and easy to do) full of flavour Bread Sauce or not.

My mum used to make bread sauce when we were kids but I hated it. Certainly don't bother with it now I cook the Christmas dinner.

  • I love it with chicken! YUM....

  • I love it, both with Christmas dinner and in turkey sandwiches. I used to make it for Christmas dinner until I found Sainsburys ready made bread sauce in tubs, in the meat aisle. It appears that Allegra McEvedy likes Sainsburys bread sauce too linky here.
