1p network is ok but i found your money soon goes with them unless you are on a contract then that different.
I put £10 on my phone and by the end of the day it was all gone...all i done was check my speed on speedchecker and downloaded an update for my phone and the £10 went.

If you are on pay as you go at 1p per MB then you should only do large data operations like speed check and especially a phone update when you are connected via wifi to your home broadband.  At 1p per MB your £10 will only buy you 1GB of data.  It is an expensive way of buying data for a big user.

This just shows how important it is to buy a data plan to suit your needs and it sounds like your needs are very different to mine.

    .
You can't be on a contract with 1pMobile, I think what's meant is "unless you have a boost". Depending on which boost you buy, their data becomes quite cheap. At pay as you go rates it's £10 for one GB but if you pay £20 you can get 200gb of data making it FAR FAR cheaper. I pay £7.50 for unlimited calls and texts and 4gb of data which makes a GB of data about £1.50.

Not having a boost is really aimed at people who use the SIM in an old non-smart phone just for the odd call and text - and who are probably going to rack up a big balance they won't use if they pay the minimum £10 topup every 120 days.

I did a speed check the other day in an area with a 5G signal and it used 350mb

@savergrant I’m currently paying £6 per month. I think that’s for 2GB and unlimited calls/texts. When I check my usage it rarely goes over 1GB which is strange since I’m streaming Spotify for about 3hrs a day.

I think my phone gets 4G at home but I know when I’m out and about it often gets 2G. Sometimes it says ‘GPRS’ and is so slow it’s unusable for the internet. I’m a bit worried things will be worse once they switch off 3G. It’s an iPhone SE (the newest one) if that makes any difference.
Are you using WiFi when you are streaming? Your phone settings should show you your WiFi data usage separately.
    Plusnet do not appear to have access to the full range of ee signal. If you are happy to pay £5/£6 pm you could do a lot worse than 1pmobile, although personally I prefer my rwg deal. No WiFi calling yet though which can be a nuisance if you have thick walls;

No, I’m not using WiFi when I’m streaming Spotify.

From what I can see, it looks like EE are cheaper than 1p mobile. They’re offering 5GB for £6 and the nearest alternative on 1p is 4GB for £7.50.

I was wondering if anyone got a better deal switching from Plusnet to EE?   Previous emails said it was £8 but when I upgraded the
home broadband they asked if i would like to switch a mobile and they said £6 for 5GB.  One of our £6 Plusnet plans was only 4GB.
Anyone with the higher data amount like the old 8GB/12GB+  Life plans that converted to Plusnet?

Just logged in checking they have not added anything like Vodafone, lost count the number of times I had to complain to Vodafone
about their securenet, although it usually got me a decent discount.

I like the option to share data so that may give them a 3rd customer.  Option for one of our numbers that does not use a lot of
data to backup the others. Not massive data users, everythings mostly done on wifi at home first.

EE need to do better with their app though, 4GB data left when I have only used .05GB leaving 4.95GB plenty of room to put the true figure.

  • I also have to switch from Plusnet. As BT recently changed our landline to Digital Voice which doesn't work in a power outage we need reliable mobiles so I am looking for 4g/VOLTE calling.
I already tried Talkmobile but the signal was not good so I cancelled before porting my number.
I looked at 1p mobile but it seems even if you buy the 4gb for £7.50 plan you still have to pay £10 at a time because their minimum top up is £10! I don't really understand that- why can't they charge £7.50 every month?
Now I'm looking at EE 5GB for £6 but their EU roaming could be very costly and complicated. I thought that if I was going on holiday say for 2 weeks I could buy a Roam Abroad pass - now £25 I think - but it's not as straight forward as that.  If the 2 weeks holiday straddles 2 billing periods, you pay pro rata for the first part then a full £25 for the second part even though you might only need a few days of it.  Has anybody experienced this?

With 1p you don't have to pay £10 every 120 days if you are paying £7.50 per month for 4gb. The £10 every 120 days is what those who never use their phones have to pay - it's to stop those who never use the phone from bringing nothing in the way of income to the company.

Just set your 4gb boost to renew each month and 1p will take £10 every now and then once the balance drops below £2.00.

It does sound a bit more complex than it needs to but you pay £7.50 from your balance each month, it's just that the topups are always £10. I think 1p are really good, this is the only aspect of their website that's a bit unclear, everything else is really well explained and straightforward.

I've just ported across to 1p today. It was very straightforward to be honest, I was only offline for about 30 minutes and I was able to select which day to port from Plusnet. Quite impressed so far.

Further to what I said above, I may have inadvertently misled people so I thought I'd better clarify. My £7.50 boost was due to renew overnight and I had a balance of £5 so I thought they'd take £10 by direct debit but they only took the £7.50 needed to buy the boost.

I realised when I thought about it that this was actually the first time I'd let the balance get as low as £5 so it was the first time I'd experienced an auto topup. I was expecting the £10 to be taken rather than £7.50 but on reflection I suspect perhaps they only take £10 once your balance drops below £2.00.

So it means the payment schedule is actually going to be simpler than I'd suggested and this may make it more appealing to some who don't fancy the payments being something other than a straight £7.50 per month, every month!
