Since the Abrdn takeover things have gone downhill... the website 'refresh' was a total disaster: it's terrible. It's now impossible to get transaction history downloads or even contract notes using Safari or Firefox (I refuse to use Chrome due to its very poor data privacy/security). Furthermore, ii's customer service is appalling (they take ages to respond and when they do it's with scripted tosh that doesn't answer the actual question).

I need to switch platforms. But which one?

I'm not picky, and really only have 3 criterion:

    1. Website works well with Safari and/or Firefox
    2. Provider is reputable, not likely to go bust
    3. Low cost (so not HL)

    Recommendations please...?

I use Firefox and you prompted me to check my ii account.  I was able to download both my transaction history and contract notes.

We get various posts/comments/complaints from time to time on the forum about financial service providers. Some of the same names crop up regularly, but II is not one of them to be fair.
Although maybe the integration with ABRDN is starting to cause issues?

I use II (and iWeb) with Firefox, and have not had any issues with either, so far.

I use II and AJ Bell with FF, no problems with either. I have generally found both lots of secure messages OK, although not instant response. You can get a generic reply first, bu a followup has usually answered the question.

I haven't noticed any integration with ABRDN, as far as I am aware ABRDN are running Interactive Investor as a separate brand.  That may change in the future of course.

I am not sure the Website refresh (which was minimal) had anything to do with ABRDN and as I mentioned I have not had any of the problems with Firefox that the OP mentioned.

  • Surprised you folks aren't getting problems with Firefox and ii...  neither I nor my wife can download Contract Notes from the Document History in FF for either of our accounts.

I sent ii a secure message... they acknowledged the problem and told me I had to use Google Chrome as that is the only browser they code their website to support. I work in the software industry and that's just sloppy coding and sheer laziness... (!)

I'd be surprised if iWeb didn't work with Netscape Navigator.

p.s. Just tested it in Safari with MacOS and it appears to work as expected.
  • Hi,
just tried it and download fine for me with FF 118.0.2.

I do not have any issues with II & safari. There has been NO ground breaking changes since ABRDN have taken over except a significantly better mobile app, slightly updated web ui and of course the price increase.

The web UI just has more "modern" theme, the formatting, the pages, the place where everything is, is pretty much the same so no idea what you are talking about.

I have found secure messages through site etc to be very helpful and reply usually same/next day.

No issues on Safari. They have both "view" which opens it in browser which you can then download manually or download file options and both work fine.

Er, no-one said there had been 'ground-breaking changes' as you put it... I said the website and customer service has deteriorated. What used to work in Safari no longer works... either for me or my wife, and ii themselves have acknowledged the faults and flaws in multiple secure messages. I honestly cannot explain how it works for you.. maybe you have magic fingers, but it hasn't worked for us for many months and we are sick and tired of it.

Anyway, thanks to several recommendations on here we have today opened accounts with iWeb and submitted the transfer requests.

Bye-bye Interactive Investor. You used to be good, but no longer.
