Cannot remove cooker extractor hood mesh

Hi all
Apologies for my stupidity in advance! I want to remove my integrated cooker extractor hood mesh to give it a good clean and replace a bulb, but I cannot for the life of me get the mesh off! There are 2 handle type things either side, but they don’t seem to do anything -you can actually see that the open/closed text on one of them is upside down (is that usual?) I’ve tried lifting the mesh up with these handles, pushing it back and then trying to slide it off but it’s not working- could it be that a build up of grease is preventing it from coming off? Anyone got any advice? I’ve tried looking for manuals online but can’t find any (brand name is Tecnowind)

I suspect that those "handles" should slide, which will release the mesh.  Do they move at all if you try to slide them?

Once you do get the mesh out I find the easiest place to wash it is in the dishwasher.

Push a bit harder, towards the side that says 'open'.
  • @silvercar thanks for the advice, that’s my intention, just need to get the mesh off first  :s
  • Hi Clive, sorry I’m being a bit dim- the “handle” on the left hand side has “Open” on the top and the one on the right has “Open” upside down on the bottom, so if I was pushing towards the side that says open I’d be pushing in 2 different directions- is that normal?

Or, post a photo of the whole 'hood and/or do a Google 'images' for 'Tecnowind' hoods. Try an ID your exact model, and then search for 'instructions'.
But do try a firmer 'slide' as well

It's possible that you push both in opposite directions. Worth a try.
If not someone's put it in upside down and thats causing a problem.
Can you move the one that's the right way up?
Use a teatowel for grip, pliers to grip and push.....give a scrub around with a toothbrush and cleaner.

I had problems with mine and had the instructions but hadn't been moved for 20yrs. Took ages but once I'd mastered it was simple.
I also got a filter x 2 to match in the local diy shop for just £2

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

  • Hi,
have had a look at bigger picture and looks like you should push them both away from you.
I'd be tempted to give them a sharp 'tap' with a hammer, probably stuck with grease.

Thanks all @ThisIsWeird I had attempted looking for images of this model but couldn’t find any. I’m in a rental so there’s a good chance this is 30+ years old. @twopenny did you have the same hood as me? I will try giving it a clean with a toothbrush- was it the grease that was making it difficult?  I don’t think it’s been put in upside down as either one of the handles will always have upside down writing. I try pushing the one that is the right way up but nothing seems to happen. @frugalmacdugal I will give that a go, thank you
