Organipets is dry food, complete - I checked with the manufacturers when I couldn't find taurine on the ingredients list. His reply is here:

Quote "Thank you for your query and it is very encouraging to hear such positive feedback concerning OrganiPets and our aims to create a healthy, environmentally friendly and tasty food for our beloved pets.

"The good news is we do include taurine, an essential element in a cat's diet, in the formula for OrganiPets Complete Organic Cat Food so there is no need to add any taurine supplements.

OrganiPets is a complete food which means it includes all the ingredients to offer a full and balanced diet for our cats. It is quite common for owners to mix their dry foods with a wet food to offer some variety though this isn't strictly necessary from a dietary point of view. Again it isn't necessary but I personally feel that offering some high quality human food as you do is a nice variant in diet and a nice treat for your cat. It is certainly something I do!" unquote

    Can't fault him there :)

Ruby isn't too keen on food from the fridge, but as I only give her tiny portions, it comes to room temperature very quickly. The tins are so small, she's demolished it in record time.

I'm daft enough to give her Highland Spring water in her water bowl too, but she mainly drinks from the outdoor bowls which are out for the birds and squirrels. Prefers dirty bird flavour to plastic bottle taste evidently. They are mostly rain water out there, though, so I see her point. Maybe I should get her a glass bottle of Highland Spring ... I am of course crazy about my cat, or possibly insane. She's the only one now - before her I had 6, rescues of one kind or another, but I realise now I couldn't afford to look after so many properly, couldn't afford vaccinations and the vets bills were horrendous towards the end of their lives, so I don't intend to go there again.

Yes, I feed on demand - she has a constant supply of her biscuits, and I give her the Almo Nature whenever she asks. She's lean, and very active - yesterday I watched her chase a squirrel straight up the pergola and then up the tree after him, and she was nearly as fast as he was. Only nearly, though - she's not caught one yet.

I always use a carrier when I'm doing vet trips - one of my previous cats was feral, and I had it to get him home from Germany when we moved back here. He spent 6 months in quarantine, and their vet never got to check him out at all. When I had to take him to the vets myself, I used to put my winter coat and gloves on before I tried to catch him. But my kids learned early that you don't mess with cats!

You're brave to be travelling with your Khaos - she must be harness trained, is she? I tried a harness once with the feral one - he turned somersaults in his efforts to get out of it, even when he was 'tamed', so I never tried again! Luckily, I don't like travelling any more, so the vets trips are all I ever have to do with Ruby.

OK - probably getting boring now, so I shall give it a rest :o

For anyone with really, really, really fussy cats.

Try Royal Canin Pure Feline No 2 Slimness.

My house full of fusspots are all agreed that it is the only complete food they will eat. They had me driven mad before I tried it :o I've no waste with this one at all. Most other dried cat foods would be eaten for a few days then rejected.

The tom was the worst - I'd give him the stuff he gobbled up the day before, he'd look at it, wrinkle up his nose, looks at me and I could hear him say "I'm not eating that muck!"

Zooplus are the only place I've found who do 3k bags (for £19.99). Not cheap, but better value than having loads and loads of wasted food.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

    Hi All,

I just wondered if anyone could offer any help. I currently buy wood based pellet cat litter in 30 litre bags at around £9.50.

Can anyone advise how or where I could possibly buy in bulk or buy larger bags to get it cheaper? Happy to buy online or over the phone and have it delivered or buy locally which is Beds/Bucks border.

    Thanks you,

    Sooz.

Hi - just wondering if you've tried Iams? VetUK have a buy 2 and get 1 free offer on at the moment http://www.vetuk.co.uk/iams-cat-dog-food-iams-cat-food-c-62_281_296/iams-adult-cat-1-5kg-dry-multibuy-p-1517 My two absolutely love it, and I got one of those feeder things a while ago so they can have them 'on demand' basically, which saves the incessant whining and cupboard scratching I used to get every time I walk into the kitchen.

    PLUS - salt content
PLUS - horrible experiments on animals

    I wouldn't feed mine that - tbh

is anyone a visitor to costco? i have been told they sell skinners dog food 20kg bags for £12........ would be worth the trip if its true, or if anyone can post various dog food prices from costco for comparisons

    thanks
A bit late to reply to this but just in case....

I've never seen Skinners dog food in Costco, the two I noticed were Autarky for £13 & their own brand Kirkland Chicken & Rice for £23. I *think* the Kirkland stuff is in a bigger bag (18kg compared to 15kg), and going by dogfoodanalysis.com, it's also better quality.

    Autarky 2* review
Kirkland Chicken & Rice 3* review

I recently bought two bags of Skinners Field and Trial Duck and Rice/Salmon (also rated 3*) for around £42 from vetuk.co.uk, and will probably alternate it with the Kirkland food, but if money continues to get tighter, I'll perhaps give the Autarky bag a try.

    Hi,

We buy our cat food from ALDI. They offer a cat food range that's pretty cheap, but is also "premium" branded. They basically appear to be a copy of something like Whiskas (i.e. they offer a "supermeat" and "chunks in gravy" etc), but at quite a bit lower price. I think it's around 33p or 35p for a 400g tin and is called VitaCat Supreme. They also do dry food, treats and the pate food in the same range.

    Chris.

I get my fussy 17 yr old cat aldi food foils approx 19p ech tesco also 19p each & with only 1 cat they are always fresh she hates dried out meat if I open a tin! Also tuna sardines and marceral good from aldi!
  • for cats - fussy or not - bozita wet food and sanabelle dry
    both from zooplus
    mine all love it

Apologies for the v.late reply, only just seen this!

Wood pellets have become an increasingly popular choice for horse bedding in the past couple of years - as you might imagine horses need a lot more than cats, so if you buy wood pellets marketed at horse owners you'll get far better value for money.

You can get it delivered from here http://www.megazorb.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=185 the delivery charge is high due to the weight of the bags but if you buy 2 bags the total cost is £20.26 incl. delivery and you get 170 litres for that price.

Now, you can buy similar products for about £2-3 for 10-15 litre bags if buying in bulk by horse standards but that means by the quarter tonne pallet  So likely to be inpractical but I'll give you the link anyway - http://www.corleybiowood.co.uk/Prices.htm

Alternatively, if you try local animal feed shops in the area that sell horse bedding, they might stock wood pellets too so you could buy as few or as many as you need.
Despite the name, I'm actually a laydee!

or you could just shred waste paper to use as cat litter, works a treat, is environmentally friendly (recycling), nobody will want to read your shredded documents and, best of all for an MSE thread, it's FREE :D
