You can get tubs of Marigold reduced salt Swiss buillon powder from health food shops and maybe regular supermarkets nowadays. I don't know whether or not it's safe for dogs though - best to check with a vet."Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0 -
Has anyone got any recipes/links to homemade cat treats? Please.0

Not sure if it is a glitch, but Eukanuba Small Breed 15kg usually retails at about £40-50. The price quoted here is usually the one given for 3kg bags.
4Pets-Store, Viovet and Net Pet Shop all have it at greatly reduced prices through Amazon! These prices usually flash up only for a short period of time.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Eukanuba-Foo...214082&sr=1-66
Amazon have now changed the item description to 3KG"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Here are some of the things I do to keep my three dogs happy-
* Insurance- Piece of mind & covers costly vet bills
* Buy Royal Canin when it's on offer in Pets at Home eg.BOGOF
* Barf diet- natural & a lot cheaper! (I feed in combination with dry)
* Feed them left over veg/rice/meats etc when cooking
* Stuffed bones that I have bought from Pets At Home, last for ages. I re-fill them with meat etc, the narrower the hole, the greater the challenge. A bit like a Kong but cheaper, & they keep them occupied for ages!
* Get them cuddly toys from the charity shops, remove eyes & noses. As little as 20p!
(Only if your dog doesn't destroy them)
* Buy medication, flea/worm treatments online
* Make toys
- Put a tennis ball in a sock & knot it = Tug toy
- Fill a plastic bottle with dry food/treats to make it rattle. Cover it with a sock old pair of tights, & knot (Supervise Play) = Tug/Rattle
* I've also bought treats/chews in bulk from www.doggysnackschack.com at dog shows. Selling ears, hooves & lots of other horrible things.0 -
After spending 10 mins in the feed store (killng time waiting for someone) reading dog food ingredients labels, I decided I had to stop feeding my dogs cheap dried food and switch to Burns, It is expensive but I can give them a bit less than the previous food, and their poos are drier and easier to pick up. I also give them Nature Diet wet food, as I'm happy with the ingredients they use. If your dogs have digestive problems, I suggest you check out these two brands.
I pay 77p for Nature Diet (it is 89p at Pets at Home)0 -

welcome to the world of quality - you won't regret it.0 -
I'm getting two kittens and I thought I'd share a few things I've found out. Apologies if they have been repeated
Burns (amongst many others) do samples of their food - I emailed and asked if I could have two of the kitten food and they've sent me two and a pack of nutritional information. Felix do a free kitten pack, which apparently comes with a popular kitten toy
There's pet houses in poundland that are like a popuppy style igloo bed. Kitten packs in Tesco for 97p which include a litter tray and accessories (they come in pink or blue). Cheap reflective collars in petsathome and you can get inscribed tags from ebay cheap.
Vets4Pets are still doing their vaccinate4life program which is £99 and all the pets vaccines are free for life.
They also do an £85 starter pack for puppies/kittens which IMO is not worth it.
RSPCA will microchip for £10, or if you live in the right area they'll come to your house for £12.
If you live in catchment for one of their centres, and you are on housing benefit or council tax benefit, then your vet treatment is free from PDSA (I believe this includes microchipping and neutering but I might be wrong).
If you don't live in catchment, I believe they'll give you some money towards neutering (providing you are low income), as do RSPCA and Cats Protection - which according to RSPCA can all be used in conjunction towards the cost of neutering.
Freecycle is good for carriers, scratching posts etc - however Argos has a pet carrier for 9.99 with excellent reviews and packs away flat.
I'm sure there's more, I'll have a quick think over0 -
so:
home-made is best for a varied diet & menu in both wet,dry & treat food.lf its bought it should be organic, untested on animals (what a disgusting paradox *shudders*),high in meat content, low in sugar, fat, processed stuff, cereal, gluten, maize, arttificial flavourings,MSG,additives, colourants, chemicals but high in vitamins, minerals etc...can you give animals particularly cats;human glucosamine, collagen, vits etc?
ls it safe to use paper that has been through any chemical processes like printing, bleaching etc?
ls it true that bob martins stuff is linked with weed-killer ingredients & has been slated as a real danger to animals?
Any tips on 'good' fibre/roughage?
Also any ideas re rescue remedy, aloe vera,'alternative' therapies?
ls feliway safe?(lt does seem to work on me as much as her LOL).
Also does anyone else have this situation? My owner(sorry, cat ;D) has every make.flavour & type of wet food (to the extent of buying the stuff n other countries & requesting stuff from folk going on hols;l kid you not!!),loves most human food esp if its stolen off my plate in front of my eyes!!!lsn't that fussed about dry or treat biscuits/dry,won't drink tap or cold water but is so thirsty that she licks the gravy off her grub, leaves the food itself & has now left me with a nana box full of grub in jelly!!
l'm beginning to think l'm being taken for a lot of feline rides here but to be fair she is burmese & therefore cleverer than myself...Carpe Jugulem0 -
Thank you littleredheadedgirl'75, you made me laugh
I have a cat like that, but she's a rescue cat - just as fussy. I've always fed her on organic food, as we eat organic food ourselves. I used to give her Whiskas organic, until it was discontinued - which she just licked all the gravy off and left the bits (sensible girl), but her main food has always been Organipets chicken and rice complete cat food. She's almost never ill, so it must be agreeing with her.
After Whiskas vanished, I went on a mission to find some wet food that she would eat (and better quality - Whiskas was only about 3 percent meat, I think). Lots of left over packets went to my Mum and Dad's cats - evidently Ruby doesn't do pate - until I finally discovered Almo Nature. My local pet shop orders it in for me at a good price. Tiny tins of shredded chicken breast, with a tiny amount of cooking juice, which she loves and eats every bit. I only give her a third of a can at a time though - very small amounts, and put the rest in the fridge. Given how expensive it is, I should probably just get her a whole organic chicken, and cook it and freeze it in small portions
You could always offer your left over box of food to Cat's Protection?
I'm glad you mentioned that Feliway works - I only take her to the vets about once a year for her vaccinations, but she miaows nonstop all the time she is in the car. I think I'll give Feliway a try next time. Funny though - when I fetched her home from Cats Protection she never made a sound!"Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

Yep you never see the dog people wandering up & down the pet aisle looking forlorn...:o

Ooh again,so you feed on demand?Does she not mind fud being chilled? That's one reason we stopped having tins-that & five tins at a time knackered the fridge

OH is doing a roasty chook as we speak LOL!T'is mostly for us of course...

Fab idea there's a CP shop up the road.TY.

Aah yes & she tries to get into OH's foot-well a lot too but l keep her with me by my feet-l must look very odd to other drivers as l sit bent over n my seat talking to her mostly.

Khaos took three people to get her into the cat carrier
now she comes with in the car every time we go on hols;chunnel is a must cos l won't leave her with fud & poo-palace in a car in the ferry-belly for hours;it's not fair,l wouldn't stand for it if it were me & l can guess it would be horrible,Etap have pet-friendly rooms & l carry her in & out of hotels etc.lt means we remember to do shorter days/drives when we travel too so i'ts a win win lol!Carpe Jugulem0
