The HSBC Global Money account is a multi-currency current account allowing the holder to send, spend and receive money abroad with no additional fees. The account allows you to hold balances in 18 popular currencies. I have a daughter living in France who I transfer money to and I travel to see her often too, I've found it to be great.

Don't open a Spanish bank account.
You don't need one these days.
All your DD etc can be paid using a Wise.com euro account.
Move GBP to your euro account when the exchange rate is good.
Wise give you an excellent exchange rate, a low fee & your money moves in a few seconds.
Wise provide a debit card for payment in shops etc.
The only snag with the Wise debit card is when you come to withdraw cash on Spain.
Virtually all ATM machines will make a fairly stiff charge to do this.
I have a Cajamar Wefferent bank account just to withdraw cash that I fund from my Wise account.
The Wefferent account is operated online & is totally fee free.
A non resident can only open this account in branch not online.
