British Gas is extending its offer of half-price electricity on Sundays for some smart meter customers until 31 December 2023. It's part of the energy firm's 'PeakSave' scheme and is a no-brainer for those who can get it. But you should still keep an eye out for cheaper fixed deals, as they could save you more in the long-term.

I think the whole peak save is a con.
Each Sunday I've been credited around 50p per week. This is despite me doing the weeks laundry, 3 or 4 loads, washing and drying and a dinner in an electric oven for 2.5 hrs! I deliberately saved all the laundry thinking id get it done half price!

Same here @marcia_ I'm a low user so I've been doing less, but still got a load of washing in, a bit of batch cooking, a good hoover round, and a luxury longer than normal shower to soak my muscles after the work on some Sundays. But then on some of them I've been too ill to get out of bed, so haven't really used much extra at all. Yet I seem to be getting roughly the same 20p or so a week for it.

I keep meaning to sift through all the data and get to the bottom of it, I did do so for the first 6 weeks but really do need to check my meter to see if they have been using a different register for that time period or not. But getting to it means a bit of furniture removal at the moment which I'm not quite capable of and need to wait until my brother can lend a hand. I know their online records are an hour out of sync, so that may be part of the issue, but I don't think it just be that.
  • I didn’t seem to save anything significant despite squeezing all my washing & batch cooking into sunday over those 5 hours. I don’t bother anymore, I have 3 loads of washing to do this weekend & need space & time to dry then between each wash - the time is too inconvenient. One eco cotton wash is 3hrs long.

I’ll be doing the hot towel wash on Sunday at 90c (keeps the machine clean too) during the Save hours but I’m not bothering trying to do everything in 5 hours on Sunday. It’s not really worth it for 12p back.
  • For the responses above why don't you check you usage during these events, calculate what you believe you have saved and email BG about it?

British Gas extends PeakSave scheme scam givin of half-price electricity on Sundays until the end of 2023

    Fixed that.

    Sounds scammy to me.

Maybe I'm old fashioned but these 'schemes' sound bizarre.

  • Meanwhile over on Octopus Tracker this is the last 7 days for our region, food for thought.

I’m unable to. Although I have an electricity smart meter, the IHD has never worked & the BG app often doesn’t record a day’s usage, it tends to average out a few days at a time. It does send meter readings & is set to do so half hourly but I’ve no way to check the daily or hourly usage. The gas smart meter has never worked.

Try downloading one of the apps that can show your energy usage, Bright, Hugo and Loop are ones often mentioned here. They pull the data from your meter and show the results, sometimes several times a day.

If your meter is sending readings, you should be abl to obtain half-hourly consumption data from a variety of sources. One commonly-recommended one is https://www.n3rgy.com/ where you can sign up for a free consumer account.
