If longevity is a key factor and you are already in the iPhone eco system then probably best to stick with it.
Personally prefer Android, but I want the customisation that is on offer with that.1 -
Android updates vary considerably between brands. For long term updates you should certainly look at both Google Pixel and Samsung phones.1

If son prefers android, retrieve SE & sell it. then buy a phone you like. I cheerfully admit to being an iPhone addict but I have small hands so I stick to the SE which has almost al the fun but my hands can manage. Also all the apps, text messages etc ported across from one iPhone to another which was a huge blessing (& almost worth sticking with apple with for Anyway.)1

there appears to be no decent androids of a reasonable size, they are all huge 6.5" beasts!!!

Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.1

The pixel 6a and 7a have 6.1 inch screens and are excellent value for money. Wait until the new pixel phones are announced in October to get an even better bargain.1

i still have £75 argos to buy a phone but their selection isnt great under sim free phones.
a friend had the nokia c02 and it was terrible, had to dent the case to get the sim card in the back, it was slow and poor screen.
the nokia c12 apparantly is the same to access the sim card.0 -
