Belkin Router and Powerline adapters

Well, many hours later and much headscatching, but I'm no further on with this. I've swapped cables, rebooted system(s) repeatedly and I still have my little amber light.
Could it be something to do with the firewall? Either on the Belkin or on my PC? (I'm using Zone Alarm.)
Any ideas?I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

It could be worth turning it off temporarily on the PC0

I am so mad:mad:. Just switched a couple of the cables round. This probably sounds daft but I have 2 blue ones and a red one - all have been purchased at different times. I had the two blue ones connected to the router and the red one from the powerplug to the laptop. Just changed them around so that the red one connects the router to the PC and hey presto it all works. Does this mean that the red one might be a crossover cable or something? I bought a different colour for identification purposes.
Thank you Red Rose Exile for all your help. Have a Happy Christmas.I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
