  • Sorry for the delay in replying.  Thank you everyone for your advice  Think I will actually get them a monthly one and cover the cost as it will just be easier all round

For example, if you take out one of the MSE deals 99p a month then £5 a month, over the year it works out to £3 a month
I'm not sure shopping around for a new intro deal (and then porting the number) every year is a low maintenance option to fit the requirement "easy payg for elderly relatuve" but it really depends how much the phone is likely to be used.

Easier than having to remember to prod the relative to top up, make sure they use the phone to stop it being disconnected etc.

Seriously you think it is easier to tell an elderly relative 'you need to look for a new sim deal', get them to sign up, request a pac, and put the new sim in their phone, than it is to say 'give me a quick ring every six months to keep the phone number active'?

No, the OP is doing it.  And you don't need to do it every twelve months. You could take the RWG deal if they don't do much. Or one of the deals where you buy two years service in one go.

Honestly, some people make everything so complicated just to save a few pence without factoring their time into it.

It was your suggestion to get the cost down to £3 per month by going for an intro offer for 6 months!
You have contradicted everything you have said
And if you go for a two year deal you still need to do something after two years or your sim will stop outgoing calls.
On the rwg £2 deal you can set up a card payment and then you don't need to do anything. Yes you can save £1 per month by alternating between lyca and lebara intro offers but it is a lot of hassle. It might be worth it I'd the op sees the relative regularly and can set up the sim for them.
