    Thanks for the update Rich_888.

I suspect QrizB is correct and EDF will bill you based on the Rate 1 and 2 meter readings. So I would adjust your hot water timer so the timing falls within the noon to early evening off-peak period.

Allow a good 15 minutes buffer on the timer so it doesn't kick in and out bang on the start and end times for your current Eco7 window. This will give some buffer in case the timer clock (or unlikely but even the meter clock) drifts slightly. And check the timer and meter remain in sync when we move back to GMT. Also remember to reset the timer once EDF sort out the off-peak time!!!!

The only reason I mentioned the 30 minute billing is because I believe EDF have/are migrating to the same billing platform that Octopus use. I thought I had read a previous post somewhere about a customer who was on Octopus E7 smart meter tariff but only had a single meter reading, but the billing was split into the two rates. Probably just me going senile and imagining things in my old age!!!!

I have asked them for clarification, but I think you're right.

    Hi

It sounds like what you now have is a "sort of working" E7 meter with the "only" issue being that the E7 timings are wildly out. I'm not suggesting this is OK, of course, but at least now you know what you're dealing with.

This issue probably doesn't make a big difference to what you'll pay as long as you adjust your hot water times and can live with the heaters charging themselves up in the afternoon rather than overnight. If anything it may work to your advantage because you'll get the best heating effect in the evening and you'll be able to cook the evening meal using cheap rate electricity.

Even if EDF don't use the 30 minute data for billing, it is available to you through third party sites such n3rgy.com so in the event you do feel you have lost out you'll be able to quantify this and it will be difficult for EDF to argue.

So hardly satisfactory but progress of sorts.....

Thanks to another thread, I was able to find out that the date and clock on my meter is wrong (time is 12h out). Reading some EDF reviews, it seems there are widespread problems on their E7 smart meters. Now their new billing system wont accept meter readings or issue a bill. Complete shambles. Currently waiting for an appointment for someone to come out, but everything with them is ridiculously slow.

    Well done for persevering.
This is now the 3rd confirmed case where the clock was set incorrectly and failed to resynchronize on an EDMI smart meter.

Engineer came and rebooted the meter, all sorted. Reminds me of the old IT advice, "have you tried turning it off and on again?". A reading appeared in my account by the time he had left.

Thank you everyone who offered advice/info, much appreciated.

It was very common on non-smart meters too. In particular the digital conventional meters.  Both of our previous meters went out of sync.

If you knew it was out of sync, it could be profitable for you as getting off peak rates during peak hours.   Before we switched to a smart meter we were getting lunchtime to early evening as the off peak rate.

However, its not particularly common with EDF specifically but in general across the board.   Plus, installers have different models. We have a 4 port liberty 101 which was installed under EDF.  Often issues are with the installer.

I disagree.  Their old billing system was a complete shambles but Kraken is fine.  The configuration and front end isn't upto Octopus's level but it seems comparable with other suppliers that use Kraken.

The new billing system has had a lot of teething problems, that may have been resolved. My account is working fine now, but it had numerous issues even before the new meter. I was one of the first group of customers moved over to it.

I also think meter model is relevant. Apparently the model I have is not popular with installers.
