I bought a bargain leather setee from SCS and it turned out to be a 2 year old second hand return complete with food residue down the side. When I sold it as second hand I lost a fortuned. Watch their bargains. The sales staff lied when directly asked why it was so cheap but when I went back to query something they freely told me the history. They will not accept returns.
Watch what you buy.
Watch what you buy.

Sorry, why did you not contact your loacl Trading Standards?
I had constant problems with a faulty suite from DFS and they were trying to fob me off so I went to TS.
One carefullly worded letter later and I have a brand new suite in time for Xmas!Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

I am sitting on a small sofa with no seats for any company this Xmas.
Ordered a suite from Land of Leather on 1/10/07, with guaranteed delivery for 1st week in Dec:
They don't know where it is or when its due to be delivered but said ..................... 'Oh we always guarantee delivery when customers are buying, but very rarely do they ever get them'.
I guess that makes it ok then?????
I don't know as yet what to do about it. I'll make a fuss after Xmas now but that defeats the object of ordering it for Xmas.

We nearly bought from SCS.
However - I did some homework on tinternet before we committed to buy. Enough said - just look for their feedback! Would touch with a bargepole!1 -
They misrepresented this sofa if they did not tell you this was secondhand but gave you some other reason for it being so cheap. In this case I would not have taken no for an answer, I would have got my money back one way or another, even if it did mean going to trading standards and telling them what they told you. They may be a big company but you should not take shoddy service off anyone, a lie is a lie and is normally intended to mislead, and this is how any small claims court in the land would see it. You may think they would not pay up on this, but can you imagine how embarrassing it would be for them if bailiiffs turned up and started taking furniture out the shop - I certainly would not buy if I was in the store when that happened.
As for not accepting returns, if furniture is not fit for purpose they would have to.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

If it gave a delivery date on the contract, then that forms part of the contract between you. If it hasn't happened as stated on the contract then the contract is effectively breached and you will be entitled to compensation for that breach.0 -
one other peice of advice before thos galavanting off to the sales to buy a 3 peice suite this coming week.
M E A S U R E U P !!!
i read somewhere/herad from others on this forum/elsewhere that SCS/landofleather/DFS and other sofa retailers dont care if it fits through your front door or not. if it doesnt fit they will ask you to take ith through another entrance (patio doors) and even ask you to get a window removed (a real pane!) and if not of that is possible they will simply leave it outside your front door and that is YOUR problem. A lot of these sofas (especially the new ones) are large and cumbersome and more suited to your average American 400SqM homes!
Large UK house = Large US shed!
size matters!1 -
I am not sure, but I think the 'no return if it won't fit through the door' policy also applies at Ikea. As Denise says, worth checking before you comit.0

I agree with any company's stance it is not their problem that the customer didn't bother to make sure it would: a) be able to go into the house, b) that it fits in the room it is meant to be going.
They are quite right to leave the suite, they have other peoples suites to deliver afterwards and the vans are packed depending on the size. What are they meant to do empty the van out everytime they need to deliver something?0 -
My latest suite from DFS came through my front door but not the door for my lounge and the guys took the door off.
maybe cos they knew i was 'trouble' or maybe cos they were decent workers. So my advice is to ask the deliverymen if they could take the doors off for oyu.
Modern houses (mines is 15 years) are built like dolls houses so i guess there must be some kind of leewayThird time lucky on WW I hope :j
