  • dont touch SCS!!! we bought a suite from them a few years ago and had so many problems with it but they weren't interested. the cushions were flat as pancakes after 3 weeks and they had the cheek to blame it on the fact i had a child (my daughter was 9 months old lol)
plus when we filled out the contract we decided not to have the insurance protection or whatever it is against losing your job etc and once we had left the store they filled it on so we were charged for it!!! obviously i went mad and complained and was told to come back in and re-sign a new contract which i did, when i got there it was all filled out with the insurance on there again. unbelieveable!!!

needless to say i wont be going back there lol

but on the plus side we ordered a new sofa from what was alders about two years ago in the sale and it is amazing quality - not had any problems and was delivered within 4 weeks just as arranged.

i wouldn't leave it though if i was you and try to get atleast some of your money back

I have to disagree. Basically if you see a suite you like you order it. If you then write the dimentions of the access on the form & the latter is smaller than that of the suite you wouldn't expect them to make it custom fit would you.
If you know the suite will not fit the room/access point then you really ought not to be ordering OR you should make alterations to accomodate this.

I buy one sofa every X years.

The likes of DFS/SCS/Whoever sell thoushands of them. If I give them the measurements of access then I do expect them to know whether it will fit or not. I don't think that's unreasonable?

    It is unreasonable.

You should decide whether or not it will fit. You may supply them with the width of the doors but that does not wholly dictate whether or not a settee can be delivered to where you want it. It may be that although you have supplied the access width detail that you failed to mention that there was a sharp corner along a corridor, or some other restriction to the access.

All these companys import these sofas in and most of the time order your spec which is why they take as long to arrive as a new car.

If you have a look on ebay there are several companies which import the same goods in from the same suppliers and sell them direct to you.

None of the sofa companies lose money in their regular 50% sales which means the mark ups the rest of the year are heavy.

The main benefit of buying new from ebay is they have the stock physically there, they will deliver, and most are quite happy for you to visit and check out the quality.

There are several out there selling the same models that are sold in John Lewis or Marks and Spencer but they sell them at the same prices as the aforementioned companies offer in their Jan clearance sale. Certainly worth a look

I bought a leather suite from ebay (homelivingonline1) just before Christmas. Was a bit apprehensive buying something I hadn't seen but money was short, the old one was 20 years old and had to go. The ebay shop made great claims - finest leather, well made, available on high street for 4 times the price etc.. but having a dog and two cats I wasn't too bothered about it being top notch.

I was delighted! It arrived within a week. the two very lovely delivery men unpacked it, positioned it and took all the packaging away. And it really does look gorgeous. And it was only £549.

I used to work for SCS and most of their ex showroom models were 2nd hand goods that either didnt fit or were damaged in transit and repaired and then sold as shop floor models but the point is if they have been in the showroom then they are shop floor models but i personaly wouldnt buy any shop floor model as i know what all the furniture stores do as regards for will the goods fit it is up to the buyer to check their measurements as all doors are different sizes i.e. a victorian house would not have the same size doors as a new build the guys would not take patio doors windows out etc as these usually have a guarrentee and it would make them invalid to do so if their was a problem
