Best talk to banks as to why the change.
If it's dropped off DD's then the obvious thought is they are now taking as a debit card payments CPA.Life in the slow lane2 -

I have vague recollection of regulatory changes which require subscriptions to a service to be treated differently . I'll see if I can find something.
Edit: ignore me it refers to the right to cancel subscriptions whether paid by DD or CPA1 -
I will also repeat my comment that there is no such code as SUB - at least if you Google bank account codes there is nothing found
Maybe ask your bank what SUB means ?1 -
Is it perhaps just some sort of "helpful" categorisation that your bank uses, rather than something which makes any difference from a banking point of view? E.g. I've had a credit card which categorises payees by groceries, travel, etc.
I agree with the above, if it's only ever been a direct debit then that's all it can be, there isn't a separate legal thing of "subscription".2 -
Have you spoken to your bank yet? It could be resolved within minutes rather that everyone on here guessing. Plus we don't know which bank you are with.4

I'm informed that the payment request has been changed by the service provider from Direct Debit to SUB(scription) effectively from 29th August - the date of my last payment to them. They also very kindly explained that this means that I no longer have 'control' over the payments as I would have under DD rules and that I can only stop payments going to the provider by asking them (the provider) to do so ! This is essentially why I raised this issue on here when I discovered the change yesterday.I have also (this morning) asked the service provider to explain to me why and how they made this change without reference to me!I await their response which they say will be forthcoming within 24hrs. I appreciate all your inputs on this issue. Let's see what the service provider tells me....Is it a 'can of worms'?0

I noticed a while ago that subscriptions were a thing, and my Netflix subscription is in there. It looks like, at least with Lloyds, it’s just a name they give to recurring payments via card.If you haven’t ever given them your card details, then I’m not sure. From Lloyds, you can still block the payment in the app I believe: https://www.lloydsbank.com/online-banking/payments-and-transfers/subscription-payments.html.1
