Why are bills from BG so infrequent?

Since I was moved to BG after PFP Energy went bust I have only had 2 online bills! The last one was in February so over 6 months ago! And with their app it first suggests you drop your DD which I do. Only to find it tells me to increase it when I log on a few days later! Them without increasing it the next time it suggests dropping still lower! Depending on how near the end of the month it is, it either allows you to drop the amount or it comes up “Oops something has gone wrong !” message. Considering they are one of the largest energy companies they really are incompetent! Or perhaps that’s why?!

You can vote with your feet and move to a supplier who does monthly billing if that's what you want. Octopus is my suggestion. Get a referral code off someone and make 50 quid each.

As for British Gas, I believe their new billing system does it monthly but you have clearly not been moved over yet.

I'm in a similar position to the OP having been moved to BG when Peoples Energy went out of business.

I find the BG billing system very frustrating, and am considering moving to another supplier when my current deal expires next year.

I hope it's correct that they are introducing a new monthly billing system.

I was moved over to their new billing system some time ago & despite being told I would be billed monthly I am not..  but at least now I am being billed 3 monthly.  I have had so many bills that have then been cancelled & re-issued it is enough to make your head spin.  I do miss PEs sensible billing.

I requested more frequent billing and they switched so that I now get  three monthly 'statement'.
However despite having a so-called smart meter, they never get my gas meter readings so that used an estimate. They do get electricity readings every half an hour but the one they used was from six weeks prior to issuing the statement !

I just wish they made it easier / possible to supply your meter reading at regular intervals. I still take them every month but it is impossible to actually submit them if they know you have a smart meter. .

I left British Gas partly for this reason.

On the website I log into my account, hover the mouse over the my account option top right and that then presents a big drop down menu which has a very large Submit meter reading option and I can submit a reading.

In the app I log in and there is a big button bottom right saying readings, press that and I can submit a reading.

This is with a smart meter, so not sure how much easier they could make it, certainly for me.

Why are bills from BG so infrequent?

Because the useless regulator allows them to get away with it.

Quite.  Ofgem a useless quango paid for by BG et al (& us the mugs) designed solely to pretect their backs from their customers complaining about that actual uselessness.

Fair enough but that still doesn't give you a monthly bill. I moved to Octopus simply because the BG billing system was so bad. Six monthly billing is a joke.

Now just waiting for my credit balance to be refunded.
