Has no relevance today apart from those cowboys who still try and use it to prove they are competant.

Is a regulatory requirement not a club.
    Federation of master builders
    Is a club. Ha Ha.
The point is we as gas engineers live with associations.
So does everybody else if they feel like it. So what is the point of overproliferation if not to confuse the punter? I'm starting a "how to reliably tell the difference between yorkshire and end feed fittings" association with immediate effect. Cost £ 2k per year to belong to and membership ensure you get lots of work. Want to join?
I cannot see no harm in it ,maybe i am wrong but i guess i have a right to my opinion.
Yes you are entitled to your opinion but how does this organisation legislate against cowboys who aren't GS registered (although claiming to be) joining its membership and using a fancy logo in order to provide a veneer of respectability to their illegal gaswork activities?

  • Has anybody actually read the website. It's hilarious. A system can be power flushed in as little as 2 hours, 80% of boiler and system problems are caused by sludge. To join this group you don't even need any qualifications as there's a small test to pass.
This is not only a meaningless organisation you don't even need to be qualified to join it, So that shows the sort of standards required, I think it be a long time before i ever join it.

I come on here to help people not give abuse unlike some people.
Would you be so kind as to show me just exactly where I have been absuive on this thread? Does the :D smiley have no meaning for you?
You at it again thinking you know everything about everything.
No I don't know everything about eveything but I have a very sensitive and very accurate BS meter. 6 posters including me have questioned the validity of this "association" and made their points in different ways. Why do you only pick on me to have a go at?
From now on i will not reply to any post that you make as after all you know everything.
I'm heartbroken TBH. Why do I seem to worry you so much? Do I detect the smell of burning martyr hereabouts? :D

    Cheers

BG engineers only get 2.4Hours to flush a system when fitting a new boiler.

Yup, and none of the engineers are happy about it! For a post-installation powerflush the engineers are given 8 hours, much more sensible.

The BG powerflush price given earlier by the way must be extremely old! So don't ask for a quote with that figure in mind or you'll be dissapointed :)

Hi Guys, whats the advantage of having a BG Flush in comparison to a £250 job most guys charge.

Also Do BG install a Magnaclean with there flush?

Is it worth hiring a HSS machine for a weekend and doing it my self?

  • Hello there,

I’m just looking for some advice.

I paid £1,800 to have a new boiler installed into an existing central heating system 4 weeks ago.

When the owner of the sole trader Gas Safe company came to my house before the installation, he said that British Gas carry out a power flush/cleanse as part of their installation process, and added that this wasn’t needed.

The leaflets that were left along with the boiler Operating Instructions stated that a power flush/cleanse must be performed before the installation of a new boiler into an existing central heating system.

So, I then visited this forum and saw that all the advice here confirmed that the power flush/cleanse was absolutely needed.

I trusted the installation company because they are named on the Baxi site as a recommended installer.

Since the Baxi name was on one of the leaflets, recommending the power flush, the company owner’s guidance must go against Baxi policy.

So, what do you think I should do?

Do you think that my boiler can be harmed already?

Would it be okay to have a power cleanse and water treatment performed now?

I can’t have the flush because of the small bore pipe work and old radiators.

    Thanks a lot.

Depends how bad the system is....
Min requirement is a hot and cold flush and then a powerflush if required..
