The hidden London trips sound amazing. We sailed past Battersea along the river and it looked lovely with all the lights out in November when we were in London.January spends - £587.584

Agree that holiday cottage prices have just gone crazy, @EssexHebridean. We've pushed the boat out on booking one for my big birthday, but it wasn't our first choice - though is bigger & will be fab, I know. The small apartment we intended to book has a sea view & we have stayed several times before at a similar time of year not all that many years ago. It used to be under £500 for a week & while lovely, isn't top luxury spec or anything, then it went up to over £600 & we weren't too bothered as we were mostly off camping in our tent then.....so when we had a look at the tariff for my birthday week this year, we were shocked to find that it was £1000 for the week! Well, nice as it is, it isn't worth that much. We found the cottage (bigger, same village & with a garden but no sea view) for a little less & Mr F said 'Are you sure you don't just want to pay that extra £100 for your birthday holiday?' but I declined as that is money we can be using for food while we are there. I think I was making a point really, as £1000 for a non-summer peak week's rental on a small upstairs apartment is just more than I am prepared to pay. Yes, we save up for our holidays now, they don't go on credit cards, but it's kind of the principle of the thing. I think some places have got very greedy & are taking the p*ss - it seems to have worsened during the pandemic when people couldn't go abroad so were all frantically trying to book UK cottages. Hope you find something nice at a price you are prepared to pay.

That's a huge price jump. I don't usually do cottage holidays so haven't noticed that things have gone so expensive. I guess if bills are rising, owners are feeling the pinch as well. Not great for people also feeling the cost of living increases.September 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.

Is the price to do a lot of people using them at the end of lockdowns as they couldn't go abroad. I know caravan rentals have soared as have the prices the site owners charge the caravan owners.

That's a ludicrous leap @foxgloves, good on you for saying no. It's easy to think a hundred quid isn't that much in the context of a large amount then when you say 'hold on, a hundred pounds is grub for two for a week on holiday' you realise they really are taking the mick!5
