You really are motoring on with the house. Well done. Do you have to pay the council to take empty your bins or have I read that wrong?
Great news on the sleeping. I was recommended a supplement which has helped my sleep no end! It really makes a difference doesn't it?Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2005 -
Morning lovely diary-ers! Quite a lot fresher here this morning - probably as a result of the quite heavy rainshowers we had last evening I should think, I ran through one absolute downpour on the way back up the motorway, then we had another mid evening. Much needed though.
We do seem to be making reasonable progress through the boxes - and the aim of doing one per evening this week has transitioned into ending up actually doing several - even if in some cases there aren't actually final places to put the contents yet. Last night I got the big box of bedding that I had earmarked for attention - and that did all get put away, and another box with photo albums which won't go properly away until we get the big bookcase ordered and in place in the spare room. Plan is to measure for that tonight. PiP I was actually musing about placing a beer order yesterday - haven't done anything about it as yet but I might see about getting a box ordered from our local-ish brewery on Friday to go and collect from them. (New River Brewery in Hoddesdon - their Blind Poet is a stunner!)
Starnac - it's just the green waste bin that is on a subscription service so we have to pay for - reasonable as not all households want or need one, and it IS only £48 a year which seems fairly reasonable. (And I've now spotted the typo which probably caused the confusion - now edited!)
Sleep makes SUCH a difference - L I was sorry to hear yours was poor again. My Garmin tells me that I am now on a run of several days of restoring my "body battery" to 100% overnight - albeit last night was only briefly - and I really am feeling the difference in energy levels which normally at this stage in the month would be rock bottom.
Glad it wasn't only me that got caught out by Prime SA - usually we'd have enough in our Household pot to cover, but that (like a few others!) has been stripped bare to cover moving expenses! It is a luxury to have, but we've certainly made incredibly good use of it over the past few weeks - at times it's been a real time saver not having to pop out and source particular items as well, and we do use Prime Video from time to time as well, so it's staying for now.
MSE Stuff:
- MrEH forgot to fuel up the car last night, so yesterday was nearly a NSD...
- ...and "Nearly" is because I suddenly realised that neither of us had changed our addresses on car insurance and breakdown - oops! Did my insurance online, just a £4.14 charge to pay, and do you know what, that "almost" counts as an amount that I would usually have just paid as part of the premium doesn't it...so s0d it - yesterday was a NSD!
- Breakdown cover changed via an email to their customer services - and as usual they were super efficient and got back to me inside an hour to tell me it was all done!
- Going to aim for another NSD today too - although MrEH might decide that yes, he really should fuel the car before we drive back this evening in which case that will scupper it.
- My car got home last night showing the same remaining mileage available as when I left in the morning so I'm calling that a win, and won't fill up now until the weekend.
- Banks checked and all fine - and within that:
Household account monthly contribution increased by £20 - this will take account of Prime, the green waste subscription, and the increased amount on the home insurance.
A couple of now unused accounts closed in N@t10nwide - our old "Account Formerly Known As (the mortgage OP pot)" included - it's interest rate just isn't competitive any more. interest from those has been shifted to the current mortgage OP pot.
New standing order set up for £30 a month currently - again to the OP pot - this represents "money we didn't know we had" and is started off with a saving on this year's council tax due to only paying a part year at the new band.
- CC now showing a zero balance with just the insurance payment in pending - and I've already transferred the money from the car pot to cover that.
- Chicken stripped off the carcass while I was prepping tea last night, bones thrown into the SC with the frozen turkey giblets, a quartered small onion, some peppercorns and enough boiling water to cover and was then left burbling away to itself on low for the following 4 hours and was smelling very appetising indeed when I switched it off! I'll portion that out this evening - some will go straight into risotto for tea tonight (need to remember to throw the last few slightly sad spring onions from the fridge in to that too) and the balance will get frozen. The chicken will get sorted into small bits for the risotto and then I'll portion and freeze the rest - reckon I might just about get two portions for freezing once the larger bits are chunked up so I can see what we have. If so that will mean that my chicken did Sunday dinner for us both plus 4 additional meals for 2 of us (and the stock) so I'll be very happy with that.
Oddly when MrEH went to change his address on his car insurance it told him there was over £40 to pay. He jumped on their online chat to see why, and so far nobody has been able to answer, so he "suggested" that the only possible reason could be because he is male...as all our other various factors are essentially the same. They've noted the change of address, and have now gone away to think about what they intend to charge him for it...
Recycling bin was empty when I got home last night and they had indeed taken the additional two boxes of paper as well so we were suitably grateful for that. We've a couple more empty boxes to go to the office this evening so we'll bring up another box full of paper to transfer to the bin when we do that, and that will then be a further box for flattening as well.
Jobs for this evening:
- Curtains in bedroom 3
- measure shelves needed for Bed 3 wardrobes - and work out what configuration I want for the one that will be holding my camera kit.
- Get MrEH to take the large box in the front room that has jigsaws and games in it upstairs.
- Start to shuffle furniture in the spare room so we can work out where things need to go, and how much room we will have available for bookshelves
- Measure for bookshelves.
That's about it from me at the moment I think - have a good moneysaving day all!

I think it's a darn cheek charging anyone for a change of address - and £40 is just blatant greed!
I am utterly rubbish at NSDs 🙄 Always have been. Mr Cheery was raised in a house without a fridge 😂 so is hooked on shopping every day (we do have a fridge now, I promise!!) We don't necessarily shop every day, but he'll never get out of that mindset, so there's no earthly point me doing it. And of course now, everything is so far away, I pick stuff up when I'm going past - and I can't let the car go too low as the petrol station on the way home from work shuts at random times early evening, so if I don't catch it there, it's a special trip elsewhere 😂 Very much admire anyone with a string of NSDs though!7 -
New River Brewery beers look great, do you know if you can go there to drink or is it orders only? The website wasn't clear5

EH - our council will take any recycling that is left beside the normal bin which won't fit in. However, don't try it with the general waste as it will just get left! They won't even empty the general waste if the lid doesn't close properly so can't be overfilled!
