Eh up sounds like a productive day all round.
Solar panels - we installed ours (well, erm not personally) last December. We are fully south facing with a decent pitched roof. We got 16 panels (the max we could get without getting a special license) plus 2 batteries and to be honest we barely use any electricity from the grid if we've sunshine.
I think in a year we are up to 15% payback already. Given the energy costs, we've certainly seen a great benefit. I'm learning to use the electric guzzling things in the house in sucession rather than all at once, but you do get use to it.
I'm glad we did it. We could have got an interest free loan from the Govt up here after a wee phone call to an advisor - don't know if you have similar options. In retrospect we should have done that, but hindsight is a great thing eh??
And, talking about kettles, anyone any recommendations for a stove top one?4 -
Yup, same hard water band. It’s funny - it’s worse here than it is even 10 miles down the road somehow.
I love citric acid for toilet limescale - push out the cistern water, refill with warm and sprinkle citric acid crystals. Leave for a couple of hours and hey presto, beautifully descaled toilet 😊Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Don’t get a Dun@lm own brand kettle - we’ve had 2. The switches broke on both just after a year….and I hadn’t kept receipts.January spends - £587.585

I used to live north of London. The water then was disgusting. We had an industrial water softener & all water to be drunk even via a kettle went through a further filter & the kettle was permanently furred. Come summer the water had wriggly things in it. It is no wonder DS will only drink boiled or bottled water. I still can't drink water from the tap without juice in it as I in my imagination I can still taste that.

My London water is ok but my kettles do get limescale inside and out ... I do have a water filter jug but rarely remember to use it to fill the kettle. It is a good reminder to order some new filters for it.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I have terribly hard water here in Seasideville. I use a water filter jug and buy fizzy water to drink. I have to descale the kettle reasonably often. Funny thing is when I lived 10 miles down the road, the water was completely drinkable and more soft! Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

I used to live in Bedford and the water didn’t taste great there, no idea if it was soft or hard. Where I live now the water tastes quite nice and isn’t hard but have been told by a washer repair guy the water is a lot harder just down the hill in the valley.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5
