Ooh, I was all prepared to roll up my sleeves and investigate the octopods tarrif for us, but I remembered that we renewed onto agile, not a fixed one (and also we don't have gas from them).
Well done on fixing the post box!5 -
We're still on Agile for electric Cheery - and still making good savings there too. I suspect there might be some point in the winter where we'll hop off again for a while, but we'll see.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Right, plunge taken and new iP@d ordered. £441 from A0 - there should in theory be 1% cashback there too, and I used the £20 off voucher they sent through a few weeks back against it to get that price. Also used the 5* membership I bought to get the discount when we bought the WM (Which didn't cost us anything as the cost was the same as the saving) to get next day delivery for nothing as well. I know it's not cheap, but that DOES feel like an MSE way of approaching the purchase, at least.
I might have a look and see what price I could get for selling on the old one.
ETA - B@ckm@rket offering £29 - think I'll keep it, for that!
Cashback has already tracked, though - good old TCB!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Leaving here as a note for myself as much as anything - one thing I want to try out on the cooking front is the home made doner kebabs that are around everywhere on socials at the moment. Looks easy and of course you can tweak the seasonings to suit yourself. I'll probably try it at a time when the oven is on anyway.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Are you sure you'll use the old ip@d?

@EssexHebridean - I'm wondering if rather than selling it for 39gbp, if you might consider donating it to an organization such as the National Device Bank? I'm not sure if in the UK you can write off the value as a charitable donation as my rellies do across the pond, but it is a way to recycle the device for 'the greater good' so to speak.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! RT i had never heard of that, and have two items that I will donate. Thank you xMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -
That looks like a really good idea - although currently just for larger entities by the look of it. They point individuals towards "Recycle Your Electricals" which DOES have links for donations - so that might be worth a shout! Thanks for the kick to look into things a bit more RT - it galls me to think of things just being disposed of, and the old iPad would probably do someone for a couple more years yet, longer if they're not fussed about security updates.
Well we had a whale of a time at our pal's 60th party on Saturday night - it was up in Wolverhampton, which was a fair way to go, but I'm so glad we did,. There was 8 of us from the bar in the end, and Bruce didn't have a clue we were coming - his face when he saw us was a picture! We were well fed and watered - well, beered - and MrEH and I didn't leave until about 1.30am in the end, it's not often I'm out that late these days! Plans to head home during the morning yesterday did have to get pushed a bit though as neither of us were going to be fit to drive first thing - and indeed MrEH was feeling the effects for much of the day - we even had to have an emergency swerve into some services on the way home!
I was right as rain thank goodness - and once it passed a sensible time since "last drink" was perfectly happy to do the driving. Anyway, there are other occasions we can do the decorating we'd planned for yesterday, so all good!
Shopping was done mostly in Lils, with a quick trip to FF's and then yesterday to the c0-0p for MrEH's milk and bananas - lesson learned that bananas are apparently gold plated in there judging by the price - at least the Milk came for almost free though thanks to the app coupons! !!!!!! turned out to be well worth the visit - the organic version of the Kn0rr stock jellies for 39p a pack of 4, the chickpeas I went in for at 3 for £1, and best of all, my favourite peanut butter at 99p a jar which is super cheap!
Made use of the final U-Sw1tch free electric session on Saturday morning - washing machine & dishwasher on, MrEH made rolls and I cooked up some chicken portions, and I also made a vat of soup which then fed us for lunch and will be doing again this evening. I reckon I used about 5kWh in the time - and once again all doing stuff we would have done anyway. We should get about £6 back over the 5 sessions I reckon.
MSE Stuff:
- that bargain shopping!
- Snagging that Octopods price fix when we did - it was withdrawn the day after and is now back to the V2 tariff which nowhere near as good (although still would probably be a saving)
- Getting a free Gr3gg5 cuppa with an Octo-code while we were wandering round waiting to be able to head home yesterday - MrEH's suffering also meant we saved money on buying the breakfast we were intending to stop for!
- MrEH made use of cheap overnight electricity last night to wash a load of rugby kit, and I will be doing the same this evening for a load of towels, I think.
- The £1.50 off in the c0-0p that meant *almost* free milk - and another £1 off your shop voucher this week which I've already claimed, we'll use that against milk too I should think.
- My shop on Friday means I've qualified for the free vegetable item in Lils - I think we have agreed that we'll go for the big bag of tatties if that's still included
Spendiness:
- The accommodation for saturday night, although that was already paid for. Also the diesel to get there and back but at least we were able to fill the car up at a full 8p a litre less than it would have cost us closer to home!
- A couple of beers in the pub where we met our pals, and then a baguette and a bun yesterday in lieu of breakfast - I was hungry even if he wasn't!
- I found a decent BF deal on my Cl1n1que stuff I needed - ended up with a great selection of bits all of which will get used (the eye cream which was part of a set I don't use as such, but I'll just use it as normal moisturiser) - £85 spent altogether which was eyewatering but actually excellent value.
- £11.57 on picture frames in Th3 R@nge yesterday - to frame up some nice bits for the front room.
Plans:
- meeting a pal at a Beer Festival on Friday - I must get myself sorted to book the train tickets as we're heading into London and it will be cheaper done on the train than using bus & tube, I suspect!
- I want to get some budget plotting and planning done this week ahead of our annual financial summit at New Year, my big budget book will be making an appearance!
A quick gratitude too - we'd ordered beer from the lovely guys at Leigh on Sea brewery - including a really nice (pricey!) bottle of Imperial Stout for our pal's birthday pressie. As we are on the edge of their delivery area they opted to courier it to us - but the couriers decided to mess about, delayed the delivery twice and then said it wouldn't arrive until today, which was obviously no good for the bottle we wanted to take up with us (and for a delivery which was ordered as a "next day guaranteed" one! The Brewery bent over backwards to sort this out, including eventually packing up a duplicate order and delivering it to us themselves on Saturday early afternoon - AND have given us a voucher for a brewery tour by way of an apology for the mess up. Amazing service from a Brewery we really loved anyway - and we will indeed be taking them up on their kind offer in the new year! (And then visiting their taproom and drinking some beer there!)
