Hi lashie - that's a really good tip - I used to do that a LOT both for wrists and under knees for kneeling poses when we lived in the flat (solid concrete floors under not-very-plush carpets) and it definitely made a difference - I'm mostly working in the living room at the house now which has a carpet nearly as comfy as a mattress so I've not found that it's been needed there. It's just my joints don't like pressure on them in that way on consecutive days any more, annoyingly! I'm rather hoping that the hype around turmeric for joint pain might have some basis as I am trying that at the moment - whether it works when the joint pain is mostly perimenopause related though I have no idea!Grumpelstiltskin said:EH Plant labels. I save used margarine cartons, wash them out and cut them into strips, write on them with a Sharpie and they are ideal for seedlings.
I do believe this is something that Foxgloves does as well - we don't use that sort of thing product unfortunately, we're butter people, so all I have in that line is the very occasional St0rk tub! It was my first thought when casting around for ideas for what we could use, though! MrEH suggested yogurt pots but they were either going to be too small or two curly I suspect!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Ahh I see, yes I do it for knees as well, I am on a laminate floor which is not very comfy! My husband has been taking Turmeric with black pepper for quite a few years now as he has joint inflammation in his neck. Whilst it he says it hasn’t gone away completely it does help and he notices if he runs out before his next order has arrived. Good luck with it, hope it helps.6

That's great feedback on the turmeric lashie - thank you! It would be superb if it did work for me - I'm always a bit sceptical about these sorts of supplements as so many of them have no scientific basis but once the compound from the pepper is added as you mentioned, this one really does seem to have seen results, so fingers crossed for me getting on with it as well as your husband does! (And see - THIS is why we like lurkers delurking and joining in - useful stuff!) Beanie - watch this space then!
MSE Stuff:
- CC is now at zero.
- Sant-And-Er seem reluctant to let me transfer money out of one of my savings pots which is a bit (more than a bit) annoying. Tried it as a straight "transfer" option yesterday and it wasn't playing, so did it as a delayed transfer for today and it still hasn't gone. Sigh. I'll give it until tomorrow and then see what gives.
- Forgot to fill my car yesterday so will have to either go out tonight or head out early enough in the morning to do it - which route I choose will depend on what time they're flying in the morning!
- MrEH wants to stick rugby kit through the wash tonight in the hope it can go on the line tomorrow morning for the day. We're not forecast rain, so this ought to work...
- I then have a plan to get a further load through tomorrow evening ready for the line first thing on Friday as according to the fibbing Met Office we have SUNSHINE on Friday. We'll see about that!
- If we do have SUNSHINE on Friday then I will also get the solar lights back out in the garden I think.
- I have started building what I think may be a slightly longer shopping list this week. I think the bulk of it will be Lil's (free bread....mmmmm) with a top up at T's for the stuff I can't get.
- I've got ham and eggs with jacket potatoes on my meal plan for this evening so hurrah for that. Will probably also add a bit of lightly stir fried savoy cabbage as it needs using and we ought to add a bit of green somewhere.
- that then means that the originally planned spag bol can go in for tomorrow evening to give us a quick & easy option when I have little idea what time I might get home. Must remember to get the ragu out to defrost though!
I think that's about it for now. I shouldn't complain, but because of no CT this month it feels a bit like the dead zone has started early!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I’m another who is watching on the turmeric effect. I do try and add it to food several times a week but suspect that won’t be enough.January spends - £587.586

I always take turmeric and it's helped me so much. I'm really careful who I get it from though so I know what I get is the best. I buy from Turmeric 50. He's very knowledgeable and only uses the best and purest ingredients. A bit more expensive, but he created his products based on his own difficulties.

Re the turmeric, have you thought of going to a herbalist? They have access to the best quality products (not just over the counter supplements) and are trained to understand the pharmacology and evidence (including interactions like the addition of black pepper). The National Institute of Medical Herbalists and the College of Practitioners of Phytotherapy directories will list qualified people in your area.

Yes, I do make plant labels from spreadable butter tubs. The sturdiest ones seem to come from the panel at the base. Have also used random sheets of plastic such as notebook covers. I would no longer buy a notebook with a plastic cover, but they are sometimes gifted to me. My current notebook was a gift from a dear friend & has a cardboard cover, but the pages are divided into sections by A4 size sheets of utterly non-recyclable thick plastic. These will defo be cut into supplies of plant labels when I have finished the notebook. I also save ice lolly sticks & disposable wooden cutlery from cafes for this purpose.

Good info there on the Turmeric - thanks all! Milann, I think it needs to be in higher "dose" than you can get from food, which is why the market in the supplements has sprung up. I've bought stuff like that from Z1pv1t for absolutely years - they're long established and I'm confident of their quality so I'll be sticking with them for the time being! I get my Evening Primrose oil from them (which I must have taken for somewhere over 25 years now) as well.
Foxgloves we also save lolly sticks! I hadn't thought of the wooden disposable cutlery but of course that would work too - great thinking! (I try to avoid it mind you as it's vile to eat with!)
Well, it's felt like a busy ish last few days! I headed up to Lincoln as planned on Thursday - but unfortunately it was an almost total washout as far as photos were concerned, ludicrously low cloud basically all day, the jets did finally get up late afternoon but it was still very grey and murky. Annoyingly we then heard that the thing that I'd gone up there for was happening the following day instead, which would have been incredibly frustrating if it hadn't been for the fact that C said "do you have plans for tomorrow? You can crash at mine if not!" - bless her! So we trundled off to T's so I could buy a toothbrush, t-shirt and some knickers and had a good evening of crap TV and catching up on the gossip with a couple of cheeky gins! On getting up on Friday morning the weather was MILES better, and by just after 9am when the first flying was happening we were blessed with blue skies and sunshine - perfect weather for the Reds to fly with a classic jet - a Folland Gnat which is the same aircraft type that the team started out flying back in the 60's/70's! Great to see! There were two more flying slots during the day as well - both also with great weather so that really made up for all the times this winter I've ended up not going up there because the forecast was so poor! Cost wise it was inevitably a little more spendy than I had originally assumed - but I will get plenty of wear out of the clothes, the toothbrush has already gone into use at home to replace the one I had there anyway, and food was fairly minimal so not too bad - and worth every penny anyway!
MSE Stuff:
- There will also be an MSE win to come off the back of the Lincoln trip as C has taken and used my referral code for the 8-legged-energy folk which should do us both a favour! She has already instigated the switch so fingers crossed that will be £50 coming to each of us when it goes through.
- Shopping was done on Saturday - Lil's for the main shop, then we went for a walk in the afternoon and came back via the C0-0p for MrEH's paper and his milk as we had offers on the card for both.
- Various bits needed yesterday - popped back to Lil's as MrEH had noticed they had large plastic trug style buckets for £3.99 and we wanted one for use in the shed for bits of kindling. Bought, and already in use.
- Popped into Sainsbugs as he wanted a coupe of bits from their clothing section - i had a quick look at the ladies clothing section and found a reduced 2-pack of long sleeved tops down to £7 - took a gamble as the fitting rooms were closed but having tried them on their are a perfect fit so that was a bargain!
- while in Sainsbugs also checked for any YS'd bargains and found a pack of Gu desserts for 94p, a single-serve pulled pork hotpot for £1.04 and some chicken tikka pieces for 84p - those two have both gone into the freezer.
- Decided to make use of the 10% off for B&Q cardholders by getting some more bits for the garden - a two-pack of dahlias, some freesias and anemones too, and they have their potted narcissi and tulips reduced to half price now so we grabbed a pack each of those as well which had already been split between front and back gardens as handily it had stopped raining by the time we got home with them! The planting modules those were in have been saved ready for use when various things need potting on.
- Contacted Sant-And-Er about my savings account that refuses to let me transfer money out of it - apparently there has been a security block placed on it - the lady I spoke with has precisely NO idea why, but she's referred it to be looked at.
- Also had a call offering us a free 2 months HD upgrade on our TV package which I have said yes to, if only because there is a hope that when it's cancelled off again this time it might leave us with access to the freeview HD channels that we haven't been able to get a lot of the time since the previous trial was cancelled! Reminder set on my phone to cancel it ahead of the end of the free trial anyway as we won't be paying £9 a month for it!
- Food is all sorted for the week I think - I rescued a couple of single portions of different curries from the freezer to defrost so we will have those tonight with lime & coriander rice. Tomorrow is going to be couscous with some of the leftovers from yesterday's rather tasty middle-eastern spiced lamb shoulder. I can't recall what is on the list for later in the week offhand, but I know I have planned it!
As things stand I still have a holiday day booked off for Thursday this week - it was one I originally booked to maybe get to Lincoln, but at the moment the forecast is back to looking grim again, and I will play by ear through the week whether I keep it or work instead. I'm fortunately that I can have that degree of flexibility, I know not everyone is as lucky!
