The fact that the a/c is NLA makes the point that it might be wise to open/fund some EA accounts at their current rates. No guarantee (of course) that these rates will be maintained but just maybe a month or few.

Getting a tracker (is the Skipton 0.19 below base still available?) might be prudent too.

I only have a small amount in the account and use it for my monthly spending money, transferring it to my current account when I need it, so the Skipton member bonus at 5.5 should work - I prefer the instant transfers from Santander but can probably work with Skipton as long as I'm organised. I also have the Skipton tracker as another option.

At this moment in time, I have a couple of other instant-access accounts that would beat the new Santander rate from May, but of course it's possible those rates will also drop in the meantime, so Santander could well remain the best option.

(No email received here yet, incidentally. I wait with bated breath...)

What alternatives are people going for in May when Santander drop the rate from 5.2% to 4.2%? There are still the Santander Edge accounts paying 7% on up to £4,000. Paragon are still paying 5.25% (only 2 withdrawals allowed each year) and Coventry 5.2% (only 3 withdrawals allowed) for those who opened accounts when they were available. Ulster Bank is still on 5.2% and that savings account is still open to all. You have to open a current account to get it but there's a £200 switch incentive available on the path to getting there.
I have Ulster, Coventry, DF capital and two sunny Cahoots @5.2%, and a handful of others paying above 5%.

Skipton's 0.19 tracker has gone NLA long time ago.

I'm going for the Skipton Easy Access ISA from 6/4/24. The interest rate at 3.8% looks poor but it's a flexible ISA, allows transfers in and once you are above £40K the interest rate is 4.8%, which is equivalent to 6% taxed (I'm over £3000 interest in the current year and I have a fixed rate ISA maturing at the end of May). Might not suit everybody but......

Thanks for the tip. I've got a 40k fixed rate ending with Coventry and doubt they'll match the above.

Noticed we've gone off topic here. So regarding Santander, I've already moved my EA funds to Ulster Bank

Hi.. I've been a Santander bank customer for many years with several accounts. I today opened an Edge Current account so that I can have an Edge Saver.  The accounts were available immediately and my online account allowed me to transfer £4k directly from my Easy Access saver into the Edge saver..  I've since read that the money should have gone via the Edge current account. Has anyone had any comeback from transferring money into an edge saver this way? Should I go back and remove the £4k and feed it in via the Edge current account - I understand that if I don't activate a DD from the current account I will not incur the £3 fee just by putting money in the account. Cheers S.

I transferred my £4,000 from my 123 Lite in August. No problems
If you have no DDs you won't qualify for cashback on the Edge but you won't be charged £3 either
