Hi Fishcake, The sort of thing I would like to know was how you budgeted for things did you have a set amount worked out for say food and everyday expenses or just spent when you needed to if that makes sense.0

Hello All,
So today is day 1 of trying to live free. Hopes are for a NSD (no spend day) as we`re moving home this sunday we`re using up as much food as possible from the cupboards, so we`re making some weird and wonderfull dish`s. Today`s is Mash potatoe surprise which is instant mash, a tin of beans stirred in and some tins of veg stirred in. No the prettiest dish in the world but tastes fine, and you can eat it straight from the bowl you cooked/mixed it in so next to no washing up lol.
We also moved the fish and frogs etc to my parents house. They live oppersite us at the moment so it was all done on foot power and several buckets. My rents are looking after the fish untill after the move so thats another load off the moving fiasco.
My mum has made me a fantastic moving goodie bag with some loo roll and tea and milk and suger in it for moving day. I just need to remember to take the kettle for all our helpers.
My brother, my oh, a very kind uncle and OH`s dad are all bringing a car each and volunteering a trip to the new place with a bootfull of stuff. They all have agreed to be paid in a few cans of beer. We got 2 huge crates for xmas and neither of us drink much so that worked out pretty well for everyone.
Other than that not much news or tips. Ohhhh.... except for stardrops which is being used to clean everything in sight. I really recommend it, cheap, cheerfull and very very effective.

Hey Fishcake,
A good luck from me too. I remember you posting last year and was only telling my OH about your mission last week suggesting we should try something similar seeing as we want to buy somewhere together this year.
I would say apart from the house and general bills our main outgoing is on new clothes and nights out - did you not miss these?Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
wow that sounds amazing - will definitely follow your journey!0

....and dont forget the O.S. idea of "diluting" the milk. I've swopped from skimmed milk to buying full-fat milk and using it 2 parts milk to 1 part water.
Wow. Does it really taste the same as skimmed? Does it not seperate? What should the dilution be to make semi-skimmed?

I do half water to half milk, which is probably similar to skimmed, 2 parts milk to 1 part water is probably nearer to semi skimmed.

Hi,
my OH has just said that he reckons that while this saves money you are not actually drinking the same product. He tells me that this is because the fatty bit is skimmed off the top in semi-skimmed and skimmed milk and that dliuting it will still leave you with a higher fat content.
I'd still be willing to give it a go though.
