Electric Heating/Hot Water Conundrum

Yes which is kind of why - I've been waiting to see a proper - and hopefully less supplier dependent solution. And the tools to get that sort of pricing information - link it to automation - and the smart switches to implement the switching - are now becoming available.See some of the steps taken towards DIY automation in posts by @[Deleted User]The only concern is at the moment - there's only one supplier offering true variable time of use (Octopus Agile) - AFAIK from posts here anyway. And that has yet to go through a non EPG discounted max slot pricing winter (apart from the really cold snaps in Dec 22 / Jan - it spent most of the rest of winter floating at the c33p price ceiling - the max 17.9p discount enough to protect 1/2 hourly rates from market peaks ).You can already see the impact of that being removed in the peak rates seen since July 1st.See e.g.But even now -most of the time the average rate is lower than "default SVT" - and the minimum rate - lower still."Although there have been a few days recently when peak 1/2 hr slot rates have reached over double the SVT - the average only breached SVT once - and that has have to be offset against the many previous months when far cheaper. But nevertheless a clear indication that variable TOU - just like the old fixed TOU (E7,E10 etc) is potentially not best for everyone""" correction and added paragraph 30th Sep0
