  • Being on Benefits here we can't go mad buying £100+ presents for anyone even ourselves, so we've been really creative this year, freebies combined with raffle prizes & cheap smellies is what we're giving people, rough cost per person has been £10. Anyone complains they'll get nothing next year.

There is a thread about how to tell family and friends that you aren't buying big pressies this year because of paying off debts. I'm sure that people who really push the boat out with grand gifts for lots of people are often paying on cards already overloaded.

We don't do this as we don't have any friends - no, not really, she says quickly - but for many people the cult of gift buying is overwhelming and the first step of saying 'we are not giving expensive gifts this year, but having a limit of £5 and only for close friends' is a huge step to liberation and debt free Christmases.

  • I went out yesterday and it was AWFUL.

so many people and then so many of them moaning about what to get everyone. I also wondered how people were going to pay for it all. I did use my Credit card but its a Tesco's one so I get points.

everyone I saw looked so tired and fed up.

    xx

  • lol, well, my mates misses wanted to go to MrT's and do the big Xmas/New Year shop, and as Phil (my mate) was in work he asked me to go with her to make sure she was ok in the mad rush.

It wasn't THAT bad when we got there, but it WAS busy, food was getting put back on the shelves as quick as it was being emptied... (I actually saw one woman with 20 loavesof bread...) Sharon (mates mrs) picked up the last pack of sprouts and put them in her trolley and wandered off to pick up something else, as I looked back at the trolley this woman picked the sprouts OUT of Sharons trolley and put them in hers! Sharon saw this and protested at the woman to put them back, the woman said "Here's my husband, argue with him then" and this oik turned up and started to get all shouty at the poor girl, so I stepped in and told this idiot that they could wait for the next batch of sprouts. He tried to get physical (I really didnt want a fight over sprouts for christs sake) and I ended up having to grapple him out of the store with the store security as he went totally nuts, screaming obsenities and threats. Over sprouts. Christmas is mental.

Oh dear - I still need to go to MrT's to get stuff for our xmas dinner. Wondering whether to go now rather than leave it to try to avoid the horrible crowds...what do you think?
