Christmas- Is it just me?

Is it just me? everytime I go shopping I find myself wondering how much of everyone's shopping is going on the plastic (with a "oh well I'll pay it tomorrow/in the New Year approach)?
Just got back from Tesco only needed mushrooms, bar of cooking choc and a swiss roll as one of my daughter's is making a Christmas log. Anyway we overheard a family talking whilst we were in the chocolate aisle.
Mum "pass us some of them chocs Paul, they'll do with a gift box of smellys for cousin Joan". Oh such thought put into gift buying and by the time they've bought the chocs and smellies they'd spent over £30!!!!!!!!
Then we headed of to the baking aisle as cooking choc is cheaper from there;)
Don't get me wrong but when we all haven't got the cash why oh why do we all feel so forced into spending money we haven't got on crap we wouldn't normally buy?
The Selection Box, where did that idea come from? Much cheaper to buy a few bars on offer and package 'em yourself, much cheaper and we aren't paying for a;; the plastic and cardboard.
God I am so not in the Christmas spirit:mad:

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:

Totally agree.
To get in the Xmas spirit i watch "The Grinch" and wait until he utters the words
"Christmas doesn't come from a store,It comes from so much more". Sounds silly but that phrase sums what Xmas should be about.
Congrats by the way for surviving MrT at xmas

Funny that. I have regular watches of the grinch in the run up to Christmas. Must watch it tonight! Anyway one trip to Tesco's is enough to make you question whats it all about. Ours had five lorries waiting to unload at lunchtime, they can't get'em in quickly enough. We reckon they were full of Easter Eggs..............0

And Valentine cards :rotfl: :rotfl:

I always wonder, actually I check, working in retail. Makes me cringe really when people are spending loads on cards. Can't tell em though can yaNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

:xmassmile I went to Aldi and Tesco today, both were really quiet, I was quite shocked. I got just what I needed to feed the extended family on Tuesday and keep us in food till next weekend. We haven't gone crazy on the cards but my Egg card offers cashback and I pay off the balance each month so I make money from them.
Now I have the food in I am in the Christmas mood, I wasn't before there was too much to do and the thought of the crowds were getting me a little stressed.
Hope all the DFW contributors have a lovely Christmas without breaking the bank.:xmassign::xmastree: :xmassign: :xmastree: :xmassign:0 -
nah, its not just you....i really cant be bothered this year when i see the vast amounts of money being spent on nothing. Have managed to keep it a cash only christmas this year and although the last few days have been tough and have overspent...i know i can fix it in Jan. Now i just need to get rid of that mentality for next year and save throughout the year and i will be sorted!
I used to be the worlds biggest xmas enthusiast but since facing up to money problems i have become the worlds biggest grouch.DFW 228 LONG H 68
