we can make choices that allow us to take a giant step back from the financial edge and set up a cushion. A sustained effort to scale back will result in savings for more than just a cushion. We can save for long term goals and increased financial independence.THREE WAYS TO SAVE1 buy it cheaper2 make it last longer3 use it lessSEEKING THE MINIMUM LEVELPeople are creatures of habit. We do things because we have always done them that way, or because our parents always did them that way, or because a teacher taught us that way, or because an 'expert' said to do it that way. We seldom challenge why we do things the way we do. As a result, we persist in expensive behaviour purely out of habit....To form new frugal habits, develop an awareness about all the small actions you do every day. Explore new ways to do things...seek the minimum level. Scale down step by step until the process does not work satisfactorily for your standards, then bump it up one level. When you seek the minimum level you may be breaking old habits. Give yourself time to get used to the new lower level. It may take a few months to adjust so that the change feels comfortable. And at that point try the experiment again.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!9

Today I am grateful for getting out for a morning run, for drying three loads of laundry on the line, for a walk in the woods with dc + friend + friend's mum, for my first nsd of the month, for chatting with a neighbour.

Spend day today. Got daughter trousers, socks and me a cosy jumper while the boys were out on their bikes. Also did a wee top up shop for things I forgot yesterday and got fuel. Fuel prices seem to be going up again 😕. Lovely weather up here, dinner was a BBQ of German sausages we brought back in the summer and slow cooked short ribs.
Got two loads of washing dried outside and harvested some fruit and veg in the garden.
Grateful for time alone with DD, sitting in the sun and good foodDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/258 -
Good Evening 🌔
Day 2 of my mood journal done - and it is really helping me tick of things that I have been letting slide. Just doing small things is giving me a sense of accomplishment. Felt so good I got out to the gym and did a bit of a workout. It also prompted me to get on and do my MSE posting 😉
Today I am grateful for:
1) Familiar faces at the gym. I don't know them to speak to but they're a comfort.
2) My last batch cooked meal. Will make more tomorrow/Monday
3) A chilled day
Today = NSD number 1
Have a lovely evening folks x

Hope you're feeling better soon @KajiKita.
3 hours of yoga sounds bliss @lcc86.
Had an extra half hour in bed. Pottered about & wrote my shopping list. Asked DS1 if he fancied a trio to town, so he came too. Though might think twice another time, as we drive up an alleyway that narrowed in the middle, & we were both panicking in case my wide car got stuck!! Thankfully we didn't 🤣 think I'll avoid that route another time! Dropped sold items off & some sewing, collected another sewing job. Did the food shop, then came home.
After dinner & putting the shopping away, I went out & weeded down the driveway, then swept what I could access. The infamous midges made an appearance, so I came inside. Sorted some things out in the living room & listed a couple of things on the bay of E. Just a big pile of ironing to work through at some point & to fit the new washing machine drum & bearings, then we'll have more space for our visitors in 2 weeks.
Finished axseeing job after tea, then the last bit of my rug 🥰 will have to line the reverse side at some point.
Grateful for laughter with DS & my mum, decluttering, a tidier drivewayUse it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!

I cannot believe it is the third of September already!
Budgets all set for this month, savings saved, and the declutter will continue.
But this month I have to lose some pounds (so says myself), the midriff kind not the monetary. It's inevitable I'll put on some weight during our holiday to the States next month, so my aim is to lose 1lb a week for the next 3 weeks. I will be eating my fruit and veggies and moving more @apple_muncher.
I'll start this tomorrow because today OH, DS, and I are going to see dinosaurs at the cinema. And I'll be comping just like the dinos on screen... popcorn rather than people though.
Grateful today for a bright sunny morning, DS having a lie-in allowing me to catch up with turtle updates, and for the feeling of holiday excitement.
