-£33.35 (debit from previous bill) - £879.44 (charges this period) - £134.00 (paid into bank account) + £886.00 (payments) = -£160.79 (new debit balance)

Or is it the how the £879.44 is calculated you're querying?
Yes, I cant understand where this £879.44 is coming from.

If total charges for electricity and gas are £965.18 (£351.37 + £613.81) = £965.18 and VAT calculated on this amount

If as per previous suggestions £134 should be deducted then surely VAT should be also calculated after deduction...?

They have calculated the VAT on the full charges of £965.18

    £965.18 x 5% = £48.26

    £965.18 + £48.26 = £1,013.44 - £134.00 = £879.44 (what you have been charged)

There is nothing wrong with your bill.

    Try checking the calculations yourself.

What you should be doing is what I do.  Read your meters regularly & post them on line.  Keep a record yourself & before you get a bill from your supplier work out what that bill should be.  That way it doesn't matter what sort of gobbledegook they put on the bill you know how right/wrong they are.  They are not the only supplier that seem incapable of delivering a sensible bill.  Whilst these new changes have not helped as their systems are not set up to deal with them, some have not managed to do sensible bills for many years.  It does sometimes feel that they are doing it so we don't challenge them.

If its correct why not deducted from any of the previous bills...? Can they just calculated bills every time different way..?

£134.00 was deducted because the Government paid £134.00 of your energy bill in this billing period.

Look at you previous bill, it should have had £266.00 deducted from it in the same way.
please see my previous bill. sorry for all the writing on it but i was trying to make sense of it while customer service team was explaining to me how it got to £1377.15

So I am sure you can see from this one that my charges for this period not £83.82 in credit but actually £182.18.

Over the whole period the bill is correct as the start reading was provided by YOU and the last reading by EDF.

The unit rates changed twice as expected.

On the dates of tariff changes they have used some estimated readings which is odd but they will be based on average consumption in those periods.
It's not that odd - she must not have a smart meter and on the changeover days she hasn't provided any readings.
Check the GAS readings, there IS an OUR READ in the middle line of the 2023 bill and on the bills from 2022 (just posted) that would indicate a smart meter is fitted.

I am just frustrated at ignorance of them, if a customer service representative who I have been transferred to after speaking to another 2 people, was not able to explain how do they expect people to understand. All I wanted is a clear bill.

    What is £83.82 + £182.168

By a miracle it is £266.00.

Your charges were £182.18 and when the Government support of £266.00 was deducted it meant that your bill was actually a credit of £83.82 (a negative bill)

So you have had £400.00 deducted from your bills in the last twelve months and £400.00 refunded to your bank account, just as you should have done.

Again, your bills are correct, there is nothing wrong with them, EDF have not made a mistake in their calculations.

The bill is clear as we have all told you and shown you.

I have explained and you still dispute the answers.

If you did that to EDF then it's very difficult to help you.
  • I have spent 3 hours on the phone to EDF today

Seriously? We humans are known for our exaggeration. Who would want to work in customer services?

The good news is that EDF is moving all its customer accounts to the Kraken Technologies platform (part of the Octopus Energy Group).

I have spent so much time looking at it and trying to work it out, finally got around it but what about people who are elderly ….?
What about people who are elderly?
    We're old, not stupid.
"People who are elderly" sent astronauts to the moon, **walked on the moon**, designed and built most of the world's nuclear reactors, and managed perfectly well long before everyone had a supercomputer in their pocket.
I would not be at all surprised if the over 60s are generally better at mental arithmetic than the under 30s.

I'm more stupid than I used to be, but my self awareness has improved ... and I have gained a welcome touch of humility when I'm wrong ...  :)
