The  charges for electricity and gas are £965.18 (£351.37 + £613.81) = £965.18 then you add VAT so still don't get it why £134 deducted ...?

If its correct why not deducted from any of the previous bills...? Can they just calculated bills every time different way..?

  • £134 should not be deducted as this is the gov payment so irrelevant and never before it was deducted.

This is forum is littered with concerns about how EDF has treated EBSS payments. To date all the complainants have been proved to be wrong.

I was questioning EDF how £879.40 was calculated and they could not explain to me how this figure was calculated.
Of course it should be deducted from your charges, otherwise you would never get the benefit of it.

All suppliers deducted £400 from charges during the six months the support was in force.

The only difference was that some suppliers reduced payments and credited our accounts with £400 whilst others took your full direct debit and refunded you £400.

EDF took your full direct debits and refunded you.

The only real problem is that none of the suppliers had billing systems designed to deal with the circumstances, changes had to be implemented in a hurry and they did their best.

I would expect that somewhere on those five pages they say that they have deducted £134.00 from your charges in respect of government support, do they?

Assuming the meter readings and rates are correct, then you bill is correct as is your closing balance.

What about people who are elderly?
    We're old, not stupid.
"People who are elderly" sent astronauts to the moon, **walked on the moon**, designed and built most of the world's nuclear reactors, and managed perfectly well long before everyone had a supercomputer in their pocket.
I would not be at all surprised if the over 60s are generally better at mental arithmetic than the under 30s.

I did not meant to upset anyone.... I work with elderly every day and would not class 60 year old as an elderly. What I was trying to say that it is annoying that all these calculations are  so confusing and complex and wasting so much time trying to understand it.

Over the whole period the bill is correct as the start reading was provided by YOU and the last reading by EDF.

The unit rates changed twice as expected.

On the dates of tariff changes they have used some estimated readings which is odd but they will be based on average consumption in those periods.

As prices have fallen, even though you are still in debit, your DD is going down.

    All seems OK to me.

It's not that odd - she must not have a smart meter and on the changeover days she hasn't provided any readings.

It took me less than 5 seconds to work out that the difference between the gross electricity and gas charges before VAT was £134.00 less than they add up to.

It is as it should be as you were entitled to £134.00 of Government support during the billing period.

    It is simple arithmetic.

I am sure it will say somewhere what they have done.

£134.00 was deducted because the Government paid £134.00 of your energy bill in this billing period.

Look at you previous bill, it should have had £266.00 deducted from it in the same way.

-£33.35 (debit from previous bill) - £879.44 (charges this period) - £134.00 (paid into bank account) + £886.00 (payments) = -£160.79 (new debit balance)

Or is it the how the £879.44 is calculated you're querying?
Yes, I cant understand where this £879.44 is coming from.

If total charges for electricity and gas are £965.18 (£351.37 + £613.81) = £965.18 and VAT calculated on this amount

If as per previous suggestions £134 should be deducted then surely VAT should be also calculated after deduction...?
