    They’re not eloping, although they are probably calling it that because they like the romance of the term, because eloping means running off in secret to get married.

    Whereas what they are doing is telling people that they are getting married, but they’re doing it somewhere else to avoid the hassle and the expense of a big family do. And then they having a big family do anyway when they come back, which is already causing hassle. Go figure. 

    If you don’t want to go, don’t go. I wouldn’t use the pregnancy as an excuse just because it’s not a very plausible one. So it’s just about being upfront and giving all the other reasons which are perfectly valid – no annual leave et cetera.
     If your husband wants to make excuses for himself that’s down to him - you don’t need to make them for him.
