Well this is definitely a first!!
Morning ladies xx
Another bright lovely day here. It is chilly (8 degrees) but bright. TFI Friday, I am worn out. Work as usual, need to go blackberry picking too at some point and buy some dog food.
Washing dried mainly on the line overnight and is currently in the TD finishing off. Have fab days all xx10 -
Morning all. Have briefly read the thread so hopefully you are all okay.
Back from a few days away last night, all unpacked and the washing machine is now on. Having first cuppa and will then do admin and finances to see where we are after the spends of this week, which aren't actually over yet. I made need to dip into savings but isn't that what they're for?
I want to make progress with sorting out the room that will be for the toddlers but it means moving stuff all over the house and into the sheds so will rope DH in to helping with that today.
We will also be popping out to the second hand furniture store to see if there's a suitable wardrobe for them.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.9 -
Good morning all,
Day at home to be here for the builders whilst DH gallivants off to Twickenham later. Apart from tea they aren’t needy and just get on, so should be ok. I hate being in for tradespeople, so have elected to work whenever possible lately.
Not a lot of point in flying a lot until the house is empty later, as there is plaster dust flying and doors being fitted. I need to clean the bathroom later when I am home alone and can guarantee that it will stay clean for more than 5 minutes. Load of washing to do later as well.
In the meantime, I probably ought to venture into the gh which looks a bit sorry for itself. Plus I have a pile of dressmaking to do - and the automatic buttonholer on the machine gave up the other night. The top has 7 buttons down the back…I need to figure out how to use DD’s machine to finish off this project, so that I can crack on with the next project which is giving me itchy fingers! Oh and there is always admin which is piled up…
Have a good day all x8 -
Quiet this week on the thread!
I have been working from home today and then trekked up to the hospital. Mum not really any better and infection markers are not improved. They have had to take her off the IV antibiotics as they are too strong for her kidneys so are looking for an alternative. She was able to move her arm a bit more despite it still being swollen but the other arm is now swollen as well and they have still not found the source of infection. Luckily she does not remember too much but knows where she is and wants to go home which is something.
DH cooked dinner again and washed up.
I am doing end of month finances and listening to Robbie ahead of tomorrows concert, I'm quite excited although we will be walking 3 miles from where we are parking and back again in the dark.
Flying wise, I scrubbed the banister this morning as it was grimy.
Tomorrow is into town to pick up new glasses (has anyone tried varifocals, I'm apprehensive) and a few bits then home until we need to leave probably early afternoon.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!7 -
I have varifocals Kaz. Struggled to walk while wearing them at first and i resort to reading glasses for work and reading.

Morning all
Bright beautiful day here today! Plans involve a good bathroom scrub, changing my bedding, finishing waxing down the kids bedroom doors and getting the new latches on them and making a vat of leek and blue cheese soup. Also need to collect veg from a friend.
Have a fab day xx8 -
Morning all
Kaz I have varifocals and I absolutely love them, it didnt take me long to get used to them and they were worth every penny. Hope your Mum is better today x
Big congratulations to ASB on the new job and Natty on the new home!
Work has been a bit rubbish this week but I am surprisingly chilled about it. I was a tiny bit anxious about DS driving the horsebox to Goodwood yesterday for work (7.5 hours of driving), and of course he then has to drive back tomorrow but trying to put that out of my mind. I finished work early and did a kitchen deep clean yesterday.
Going out for a big walk somewhere today but I want to do a home workout first. We have had a really spendy summer so September's plan will be to start knuckling down and throwing money at the debts properly. We are away for a few days camping but can keep the costs down for that.
Have a good Saturday all x9 -
Morning all.
Kaz, I have had varifocals for about 10 years and am very happy with them. I don't have separate reading glasses. At one stage I had separate specs for computer work, with just close and middle distance lenses, but not any more. I found that I had to be careful about moving my head up or down to get the correct focus, and it's best if you are looking at things straight on (you can't look out of the corner of your eye), but I got used to doing those things quite quickly. Do make sure that you get the specs fitted properly - we nearly all have one ear higher than the other, and if the lenses are not quite level you will get a distorted view which will soon give you a headache: I discovered that after I fell asleep wearing my specs and bent the frames! Don't be afraid to go back to the optician's to have the fitting adjusted whenever you sense that your eyes are not happy.
Just another week to go, asb? You sound much more positive - hope the sunshine stays around for you
I have done a lot of sorting and filing of family history papers and flinging of rubbish this week, and now have a nearly 3ft-long space on my study shelvesDon't worry, I'll soon fill it up again
And I've talked to DD and DS1 about how best to organise all the bits and pieces that I shall eventually pass on to them and DS2 (I'll talk to him this weekend).
Since my last post I've also
- done a trip to the CS
- made cakes for DS2&Co
- found 11x A4 storage boxes to add to DS2's study, to match the ones I gave him a year ago
- watered the tomatoes regularly and picked (and eaten) some [nom-nom]
- emptied the washing basket again
- walked Rosie
- been to Action Heart, where I was asked to talk to a work experience student about how I got there and the benefits I've experienced
- used up (or frozen) all the soon-to-be-OOD food in the fridge with some creative meal planning
Hoping we will all be ready to head for the motorway by about 10.00, then I shall be taking a break from flying for a couple of days
Hope everyone has a good weekend xxx

Morning all,
I too have varifocals, have done for years. I get on fine with them, but definitely make sure they are lined up properly. I went back twice last time to get the frames sorted. I did also used to wear contact lenses in the running days, and then have reading glasses as well, as I couldn’t have vari-lenses. That was a faff, and now I just wear varifocal glasses all the time.
We have the world’s noisiest industrial dehumidifier running in the kitchen to try to speed dry the plaster for decorating next week. It is damp outside, so probably just as well, but relaxing it ain’t. Yesterday, being on my own apart from the plasterer, I got a few things done, even some admin. I managed to set one sleeve in my top, the other is ready to sew today, and I traced off the pattern for the dress that has a wedding deadline to it. That might not happen, given the state of the back bedroom where I do the sewing. Had a film night for one last night, and ended up unpicking a few rows of knitting as I wasn’t concentrating and counting properly. Duh.
Today I really need to dig potatoes before it rains. Then it is a busy weekend, with 2 invitations out to go to on Sunday and Monday. Apparently I also need to plunder the freezers, as one of them needs to be emptied, defrosted and moved. That’s not going to happen. The freezer bags will have to be employed.
Off to make a second cuppa - lagging behind today - if anyone cares to join me x
