Well I had a buyer two days ago that placed an offer. I rejected. He placed another slightly higher offer. I accepted. Then he didnt pay and a day later 'told' me to cancel the sale!
Now I have to wait for the next FVF discount day to relist it.
    Annoying!
This is why I don't do offers in your way. If someone makes an acceptable offer I reply that I will reduce the selling price on the listing accordingly. That way you are not tied to that buyer only. On occasion a completely different buyer will hit the BIN.
Jeff - that is a good idea!  I think I will have to try that.  Thanks for the tip.

The message says "By selecting Make offer, you authorise eBay to use these payment details to collect payment from you for this item and for any future items you offer to buy or win at auction on eBay. The amount collected from you will consist of your offer or bid (up to the total entered by you) and any applicable costs."

I don't have a problem with immediate payment, most sellers write 'prompt payment' in my feedback and I have never backed out of a contract in the near 20 years I've been on eBay, I have a problem with 'any future items'.

I use different cards depending on whether I am buying for my family, business, or myself and also whether I want to use a debit or credit card.  I will happily agree to the offer I am making, but not to every offer after it.
Never judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes, that way, when you do judge them, you are a mile away and you have their shoes.

I like it. one thought though, how do you let them know their offer is accepted and be sure they know? I've had offers before which I'd be willing to accept but  rejected with a message of some sort, for example "yes I'll accept your offer but just confirm you are going to collect as according to eBay you are at the other end of the country", only for the byer to never receive those messages as they don't bother looking, or maybe it isn't obvious to them. all they see is "offer rejected, increase your offer"

Very few offers are conditional though, I can't recall ever having made conditions so it is going to be only a minority affected. As I see it, the seller accepts the offer and it is immediately sold, so buyer then gets the usual 'won/bought' message and money is automatically taken.

If you need to set conditions then the only option is to decline the offer just as is currently the case, it won't make any difference- if buyers don't see the message now then they won't see it going forward, the offer declined message won't change.

  • As one of many it seems who've had their time wasted by deadbeats over accepting offers, I also welcome this with open arms.

In 4 hours time yet another accepted offer will be auto cancelled by eBay if buyer hasn’t paid. They sent an offer I counter offered and they accepted then nothing. This is on my private account so at least it will be closed and item available to re list while there is a FVF offer weekend on. It really isn’t acceptable though and it’s shame that I don’t appear to be on the pay immediately trial.

  • Okay what happens if you normally use paypal pay in 3 payments, is that still possible after making an offer.

I'm not sure if anyone is on or off the trail, it seems random to me. sometimes I get paid instantly, sometimes I have to wait 2 days...
it does say when I will get paid instantly on the offer page though
  • @soolin you should be able to turn it on in your settings.https://www.ebay.co.uk/bmgt/buyerrequirements
