Video made of rental property showing everything I own!!

Options
Hi, I am moving out of a rented property and the managing agent has asked if they can do viewings on a certain day to re-let the property - no problem.

I have now become aware that they have made a video of the property showing all my possessions without asking my permission. Where do I stand? - I'm not happy about having everything I own shown online.

What do you mean "where do I stand"? What do you want the outcome to be? Do you want them to take the video down?

Does anything in the video personally identify you? eg, photos? If so, then I'd say you have a right to at least have those items blurred out in the video. If it is just "stuff" that anyone could have, then I'm not sure what the issue might be.

I recall one listing in the past that has gone viral where a woman's "personal item" was sitting on the bedside table and clearly shown in some photos. Those photos were soon removed from the listing...

If you're just about to move out anyway, does it matter?
  • Can they take a video showing all my stuff without asking permission?

There's no fundamental reason why they can't.

Do you have a specific concern about it?

I guess the issue would be if any of the possessions could clearly identify you. So video close ups of pictures of your family might be unreasonable but if it's just a sofa and table and chairs which are broadly generic then I don't see a problem?

you'll appreciate I'm sure that did not have to and do not have to agree to any such viewings, videos or visits # unless tenancy says you do

    Just say no - !

Is there not? The op didn't give permission for the recording. Would you be happy if someone who was, say, mending your fridge took a video of your house and put it on social media?

It would be a bit odd for them to do so, but on what legal basis could I prevent them?

I presume the OP's question was about what rights they have rather than about etiquette.

What is in your tenancy documents regarding marketing the property.

We have a section in ours regarding access and photographs to market the property for rent or for sale in the last 2 months of the tenancy.

People are saying what's the issue.

Let's just say the tenant for example may have something like a restraining order and a video taken without their knowledge could identify them. They should at least be informed beforehand.
