Vodafone claiming I didn't cancel contract when I did.

I need some advise. I will give a short summary of the events that have unfolded.
1. I had a phone + sim contract with vodafone. The contract ends and I notice they continued charging me which is my mistake. I ring up to get a sim contract. After getting the sim contract, I realise voxi is cheaper so I moved there and used my rights and rang up and cancelled in the cooling off period.
2. Collectively voxi and vodafone have lied to me and refused to let me move my phone number for over 90 days at this point so I took to twitter.
3. In response to this, vodafone is now claiming i didn't cancel my contract and are trying to debt collect me for 1000gbp. Obviously, I have a phone record of my calls with them but not a recording? What can I do

After cancelling with Vodafone did you request a PAC to port your number to Voxi..? This would void the cancellation of the Vodafone service, which would continue until use of the PAC.

I was lied to by Vodafone as they said I could move myself to voxi and when i got there it turned out they had to move me. VOXI is owned by vodafone.
Breach of contract which is ludicris. It was only a 12month contract at 19gbp so the contract is worth 228 at the maximum.
Thanks for the advice. This whole thing seems like a shady tactic as they took so long to transfer me that it signed me up to a new contract.

Unfortunately I think asking for a pac has confused matters. On another thread someone informed me that requesting a pac negates a notice of cancellation, once you have been issued with a pac your service continues until the pac is presented by a new provider. And unfortunately voxi is not a new provider as it is part of vodafone, so you don't pac from Vodafone to voxi (you don’t even need to change sim.) So from vodafone's perspective you rang to cancel but then changed your mind as you didn't use the pac.
Did anyone at vodafone or voxi advise you to request a pac? Did you tell vodafone that the reason you were withdrawing from the contract was to go to voxi instead? When did you request the pac and when you withdrew from the contract what arrangements were made for terminating service?
When your original minimum term ended vodafone are obliged to tell you, did you receive anything by text or message to say your minimum term had ended? Sadly many contracts will still roll over at the same amount after the minimum term (although split contracts where the cost of the phone and the airtime plan are separated are becoming more popular.)0 -

How did you move to voxi? As oldernonethewiser posted there is a signup area to migrate from Vodafone. Did you use that or did you signup as a new customer?
What information did you receive with the pac? Networks need to tell you of any penalties for leaving within the minimum term before you use the pac, which will pretty much be the full amount you would pay for the service until the end of the minimum term. You are right, that should be a maximum of £228 for 12 months at £19.0 -

2. I think they might have informed me via email that's my fault and I paid the extra for a few months.0 -
