@MeteredOut you've seen the property details, don't you agree something doesn't add up here?

What doesn't add up? The house was bought for a price and sold for a price. It's a high price but someone must have paid it, unless it's an error in the sale record.

I don't know the house you're commenting on so can't guess as to what caused the price hike but I don't think it matters because beyond time travel there's nothing you can learn from it.

Mark, your right, it doesn't add up! We should call the Serious Fraud Office, there is clearly something going on here. Maybe get MI5 involved too, the house could be being used as a secret Russian safe house?

Is your "friend" out the country regularly on short notice trips or have they got a new job recently in an embassy?

I bet the house was bough with laundered money as part of an underground drugs ring!

In all seriousness, no as everyone else has said.... someone bought a property for money and then someone else decided to buy it a few years later for more money. That is their business and they made those choices.

You need to focus on your own life and forget about others.

@EssexHebridean I've deliberately not mentioned the town in case he's on here as I'm aware there's probably nobody else originally from Leeds living there and I may be the only person he knows from his area of Leeds living in London. I see in your signature that you were mortgage free in 2016 and have just taken one out again, what was your strategy behind that?
Simple - and has been mentioned in the thread previously in fact. We were in a flat, and decided we wanted to move to a house for more space, a garden, and no upstairs neighbours. So the full  value of our flat (£200k) plus an additional cash sum from savings, but still required to "top up" to the purchase price of the house with a small (by today's standards, although larger than our original one) mortgage which was taken over 16 years. We're aiming to get it gone in under 10 years, and overpayments have already started in spite of us only having had the mortgage for under 6 weeks.

As for not mentioning the town - I suspect you are fooling yourself if you think that your "friend" wouldn't be able to identify himself just because of that.

@Markglasses. You do seem to come across as a little bit radio rental, just let it go, get on with your own life and enjoy what you have. Now, this has  either been a wind up, if so, it's been a brilliant giggle. or if it is serious, it's sad to see somebody stressing out over something that they can not change.  Life is too short, so enjoy it while you can, don't waste your time and energy.
Corduroy pillows are making headlines! Back home in London now after 27years wait! Duvet know it's Christmas, not original, it's a cover.
  • Hopefully Labour's announcement of 1.5 million new homes well push prices down further, especially in areas likely to see development.

Most of the new builds will be rubbish, too small, badly built, 20th century designs, but due to the state of most UK housing stock it should still do the job.

There is zero chance that Labour will be able to get 1.5 million new properties through the planning process and constructed.

Local authorities, planning departments and water authorities can not deal with their current workloads and getting current projects through the various hoops and approvals. They have zero chance of getting a further 1.5 million on top of that approved. It just won't happen.

That had crossed my mind briefly but I figured it'd be a terrible way to launder money. But assuming it was cash then it'd only be £38,750 in stamp duty, with potentially no need to prove the source of they money.

If it makes the OP feel better that someone may have done better by him by doing something illegal rather than just getting lucky then why not. It makes no practical difference.

Whilst 1.5m new homes seems fanciful it's possible that this could actually increase house prices in some regards. As smaller, poorly build town houses with box gardens and allocated parking becomes more and more commonplace, houses with space will become more valuable.
    Increasingly money-conscious

It's not the bigger older houses with proper room sizes and decent gardens that come with incentives and 'cash back' and free flooring etc...
I'm unsure about my spine, I think it's holding me back.
