Sallyforth. Welcome to the thread! Would be great to hear more of your plans and how your pensions are supporting your retirement.
No I do not have any pets. I had a pair of labradors up to to 2020, but lost them within weeks of each other. I was so distraught that I have decided not to have any more animals.
I also find not having the responsibility of caring for animals less stressful. I am also enjoying a green lawn and dog hair free house! I do like things neat and tidy!1 -
I have just spent part of the morning revamping my budget spreadsheet that will take effect from January 1st 2024.
The current one has become too complicated and after 6 months in operation needed a thorough revision.
I have put a transitional budget in place for December 2023.
The new set up is much simpler and will enable me to keep a closer track on income and expenditure.
It will run from January to April 2024.
As my pension increases in late April I will revise plans for the May to July period to take account of payment changes.
From late July 2024 my state pension becomes payable, so figures will have to be adjusted then as my income will show a vey pleasing increase!
Although it is very cold here, I am now going on a forest walk to clear the cobwebs after concentrating on the spreadsheets for a couple of hours!0 -

So sorry for the loss of your labs but yes animals are a massive tie I agree and I wonder if I'll replace my two when te sad time comes.
My story towards financial freedom is pretty complicated having lived my life mostly in debt. I'd be happy to share but just feel it would be boring to you and your readers alike.

Freezing temperatures here this morning so I am still snuggled in bed. So pleased my Christmas preparations are all complete apart from Christmas food shop in two plus weeks time.
I rarely shop at the weekend during the daytime. One of the advantages of retirement is arranging shopping and all appointments during off peak times!
I may go for a forest walk later and post my Christmas cards at the same time.2 -
@[Deleted User] your Christmas trees look amazing. I may look at getting one as our dog is still in a destructive phase, he is only 17 months, and everything needs to be out of reach.
Hope you enjoyed your forest walk.

These trees are lovely and might even inspire me to get one to brighten up a dark corner of the hallway. We usually just have one main tree which the grandchildren help decorate mid-December. However, the weather is so miserable at the moment with constant rain that this would make life a little more cheerful.
Thank you for the inspiration0
