I have just renewed one car - a six cylinder Mercedes - up from £92 last year shocked to discover it’s now £93 this year.  YMMV as the Americans might say…
    Who's your insurer?
I used compare the market.  I actually got 18 quotes under £200, seven under £130, including RAC, Santander, Dial Direct, Admiral "essentials", Elephant, etc.

Lots of banks seem to be offering insurance - so possibly all the same underwriter(s).
  • I'm with M&S and my renewal quote has gone up by around £26 to £498.45 (£41.53/month) or £457.76 outright.

Had a look at Sainsbury (been with them before for £300-£400, the renewal went up by nearly £150 so swapped, and they want over £1200!

Car insurance prices are set to rise further, according to the largest motor insurer - despite already being at record highs.

My first car insurance was £3,300 which is £8,458 in today's money.
17/18 year olds today can get first insurance for £1-2k, less with a black box.

Today I pay a range of £93 - £188 each across several cars.  My parents at the time were paying £190 for their insurance at the time (£487 in today's money).

I would put money on car insurance not being 'at record highs'.

You seem to be the only one on here unaffected by the hike in prices over the last year.
The quote above is from the article if you bothered to read it.
Fact, car insurance has increased over the last year to record highs.

May's data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) saw motor insurance far outstripping overall inflation - at 43.1% compared to 8.7%.

The fact that a spotty 20-something journalist cannot remember higher cost car insurance does not qualify it being a “record high”.

Only doubling you are doing well.  Mine went up 135% with no changes full no claims.  I could have got it elsewhere for only double but at least this is fixed for 3 years. With the way things are going who knows what next year will bring.

Silly comment about a journalist you don`t even know.

So the ONS is wrong and you are right?

Post a copy of your £93 quote for a six cylinder Merc.
