Personally, not a fan of 1 bedrooms as the price difference to a 2 bedroom not so high and can have a spare room if need more space in the future or have a lodger.

Kent is nice Bexleyheath but depending on your budget etc.

Dartford also popular with commuters to London.
Other area in Kent is Belvedere which is easy commute to London and not far to the Elizabeth line via Abbey wood.

Bexleyheath - almost bought new build flat there but stopped myself (I cannot afford house there).
Dartford - I can afford the house but I have been in the area and I had a feeling that more working class people live there (I might be wrong). I agree that commuting is nice and easy.
    Fair point.
I chose Bexleyheath because of the future, good schools and family around.

Dartford not much local knowledge but every area has mixed people unless you go for high end areas.

As an aside, I've always bought in areas that are quite rough around the edges but that I can see are in a good location and starting to attract interest from people priced out of "Waitrose" towns. Those are the areas, I'd suggest, that would increase above the average. I'm happy living in either, you may not. Confess that  I do prefer the rough-around-edges vibe.
I guess the question for you is for a preference of capital gain or immediate comfy living? Either way, choose a place you'd be happy to live
I liked your last phrase "choose a place you'd be happy to live".
    I should stick with that.
    Thank you :-))
  • Basildon, Essex. 35 minutes from Fenchurch Street. Plenty of affordable homes. Definitely recommend that you take a look.

Would be Southend-on-Sea more desirable area then Basildon please? (as a coastal town)

    Good point.

Growing up we were in Streatham, then moved to New cross but my parents budget they wanted to buy.

They bought a house in woolwich. Since 2003 the area has improve and also transportation much better.

At first just train, now DLR and Elizabeth line and M&S.

Starbucks opening soon near Royal arsenal.

I do not think about capital gain/loss. I would invest in Dubai then :-))
All I am thinking: to buy, to live while working in the UK, to sell quickly when I need to move in different country.

The question is what location would almost guarantee me lots of viewings and a sale :-))

An area with good transport links.

Basildon is more popular than Southend because its a new town so it has newer property, there are better access to jobs, better transport links and 35 minutes from Fenchurch Street. (Southend journey is around 1 hour) etc. But individuals circumstances are different and its down to personal choice. If I worked in London I wouldn't want to be on a train for 2 hours a days.

I wouldn't choose to live in either town, but would favour Southend if someone put a gun to my head.  That said, everyone I know who lives or has lived in Southend doesn't like the place.  The seaside amusements are fun, the Kursaal has history, there is/was a pub rock scene and the seafront is good for car spotting, especially Dagenham's finest.  If none of that appeals, which I suspect it won't, avoid.  Unsure of the location of the nearest Waitrose.

Basildon produced Depeche Mode so can be forgiven all, but in reality is rather like what would result from the MD of Bovis Homes and J.G. Ballard working together to build a town.  There are dual carriageways, supermarkets, pockets of disparately designed suburbia, high rises and not much else.  There is no town centre bar two shopping centres.  There is urban blight.  No car?  Forget about it.  Alternatively, go to Bas Vegas (Festival Leisure Park) and drink, sniff or smoke until you've forgotten that you live in Basildon.  It's what the locals do.

North Essex is the better bit, generally.  More farms, villages, clapped out ex-Goths masquerading as arty types and much less TOWIE.  There are still lots of white Range Rovers, but they only account for one in four cars, go south of Chelmsford and that increases to one in two!  There is a Waitrose in Colchester, although it's not in an especially expensive bit of town.  They took over a failed DIY discount place - not sure what effect that has on your formula!

Id probably say they a similar in derisalbility.

I agree with the poster above, North Essex is much nicer. Chelmsford is nice although I don't think its has a waitrose, it does have M&S.

Ex Sg27 (long forgotten log in details)

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.
