So I can see ok in landscape and pictures are ok, but navigation is a pain.  What used to be one click is now two and it's not easy to see when a thread has a new comment.

But it's not. Previously reading a thread I got to the Leave a Comment box and there was a link back to the forum index page. Now what do I have to do? So far I'm hitting the back button and refreshing the index page.
We've noted the point about the links that used to be at the bottom of the page, but if you're using a computer (ie something bigger than a tablet, have you tried the 'Quick Links' menu in the green bar at the top - this will save you scrolling all the way to the top.

Change is always tricky to adapt to when it first comes, so I'll give this a couple of days before commenting on the style (though I'm struggling to navigate on first glimpse).

Feel duty-bound to report my perverse glee that the "MSE Guide to Coronavirus Travel Rights" appears to still be a pinned thread in the credit cards subforum

Oh, no option now to return to the main subforum page from the bottom of the last post - you now have to scroll up, which is a bit of a pain
