Hi,
Only a week to go before we bring home 2 Jack Russell puppies, and excited is putting it mildly!
We lost our last JRT back in April, and because of his age it hadn't been worth our while insuring him, obviously things will be diferent with these two.
Are their any companies you would recommend?  Previously we were with Animal Friends, but they weren't that good and other people's experiences also confirmed that it wasn't just us.
I know the vet will probably have dealt with God only knows how many companies over the years, but as we're also registering them with a different vet, it would be useful to have some recommendations from dog owners here.
I don't expect having any sort of discount for having two, but they're not pedigrees so there is that!
Thanks

    PetPlan absolutely 100%.
They aren't the cheapest but are the best.
They don't increase premiums if you claim.
Many vets are happy to claim direct, so all you'd need to do is the initial claim form and give to Vet.

Thanks, I'll check that out.  It does make a difference when the vets do the forms doesn't it?  The devil's in the detail and all that!

I would recommend Tesco Bank via Topcashback. Never claimed though so cannot recommend based on claims.
Service from them has always been good when dealing with their CS

I'm very happy with Many Pets for my 6 year old Patterjack, only claimed once - straightforward, no hassles, no increase in premium as a result. Costs £24.76/month at mo, gradual increase from £13.33 when she was 12 weeks old.

There have been recent reviews complaining of delays in Many Pets paying out. A friend who was a vet nurse used Tesco and recommended them after her experience of claiming. I used them but never had to claim. They do have restrictions about referrals.  Cheap insurance is cheap for a reason.

I’m with pet plan. I’ve done many claims over the years with different dogs and not had a problem.
they are dearer, but they cover dental as long as you have the annual check and they don’t hoik up the premiums if you make a claim.

Pet Plan, absolutely. Our cat had what turned out to be lung cancer in March, they paid out within a week of the claim with no quibble at all, dealing mostly with the 2 vets she attended (she had to go to a specialist for the operation). We had to pay £115 plus 20% as she is over 10 and the bill was over £9K in a week; fortunately we have £12K of cover per year, and don't anticipate the premiums going up much. With a good level of cover we could concentrate on making the right decisions for our cat without having to worry too much about the money.

Be aware that vets will generally charge an admin fee for dealing with the claim, which won't be reclaimable, so you can save a bit by paying on a credit card and claiming back yourself if you are able.

I don’t think you can avoid the Vet admin fee. I always pay the bill myself and claim it back. I still have to pay the Vet admin fee because they still need to fill the form in to confirm to Petplan what treatment has been done and pet plan exclude you claiming those back.

Whoah. My vets have never charged me a fee for filling in claim forms etc. I do as much of the form filling as I can before getting them involved, but think my vet just rolls that into their overheads and call it part of the job.

By the way, to the OP, I know this is off-topic but you're bringing home two puppies right? If you haven't already, please read up on littermate syndrome so that you can minimise the chances of any issues developing.

My local vet didn't charge but the specialist I was referred did charge.

I expect the surgeries that part of a chain would charge as they seem to be out for as much money as they can charge.
