Certain types of wasps will use the wood pulp to build their nest.
A large nest under a timber floor may inhibit the air flow slightly.0 -
Have you called your insurers yet to see if you are covered and what effect (if any) it will have on excess and future premiums? How are you planning to install mesh if you can't spray killer on the airbrick?
Sometimes I feel you just don't want to act on the advice given by posters on here and just string out the thread til you get bored.1 -

Our honey bees entered the space between our ceilings and flat roof through the air brick.
Once your wasps have gone, I would recommend covering the air bricks with a fine metal mesh. Don't trap them in as they will eat their way out some other way.2 -

We have a wasp exterminator coming on Monday
It is free (no effect on NCD) no excess
It's probably going to be raining on Monday though

Have also ordered - a number of MOUSEMESH Pest Proofing Air Brick Vent Covers from Amazon - to fit, to ALL airbricks after the wasps have been dispatched !They can either be screwed or stuck to the wall - I plan to stick them using https://www.diy.com/departments/volden-white-grab-adhesive-80ml/5059340614779_BQ.prdWill that hold them ?

Bonjour,

I am in the same situation as you, I have wasps who have made their nest in my chimney flue. I hear them buzzing when I'm in the living room. I worry that they will do damage or sting me if I disturb them.I searched the web for how to get rid of wasps in the house and found several possible solutions. Some are natural. Others are chemical, like using insecticides. But I don't know which is the most effective and least dangerous. One day, a friend advised me to use a product that stops wasps on this site (stophornet.fr/products/hornet-treatment). Has anyone tested this product yet? Is it safe and environmentally friendly?
Thank you for sharing your experience and advice. The product you are asking about contains Permethrine which is a very effective insecticide. It is also harmful to most wildlife and should be used with caution. At 10g/l (or 1% w/v), that particular spray is very strong (surprised that EU legislation allows it to be sold to the general public). Even 0.01% concentration will kill most insects. In general, wasp & hornet nests can be left alone - They will depart over the winter months and won't return to the same nest the following year. Unless you go poking the nest, they won't attack & sting you either. Just plug the flue where it enters the room with an old pillow or chimney sheep and leave the nest alone. When it gets cold, remove the pillow and light a fire - The heat & smoke should drive any little darlings that are still in residence out.Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.2
