Wasps and airbrick

We have a number of wasps, crawling through an airbrick on the rear of our house
I can hear nothing when I stick my ear to the floor in the room
Is this something to worry about ?
What's the best thing to do ?
We ARE covered under our home insurance (Aviva premium) for wasps - is it worth asking them for advice NOW ?
I assume that, since we are covered for £1000 - there is no excess and any claim will not affect NCD ?

How do I get it on the wasps (nest ?) though - the nest (if one exists) will be under the floorboards
Or do I stand by the airbrick and  shake some on individual wasps as they land on the airbrick / come out ?
    Does WD40 really work ?
The wife doesn't want to kill them though - she just wants to deter them !!!

If I claim on my Aviva home insurance - is there any potential downside ?
ie) excess or loss of NCD ?

When dealing with wasps, I've found the foam spray stuff better when you didn't have direct access to the nest (such is the case here). Spray it into the air brick and stand back.

You won't be able to deter them, so the other choice is to leave them alone. They don't come back to same nest in following years, but may come back to same area.

It's not something I'd consider doing on insurance. When we had one that was larger I was happy to deal with myself (and it was not easily accessible), I called someone out instead and it was taken care of for £50 (a few years ago now).

We have a large gap between the floorboards and ground surface (2 feet) in the rear of the property (due to being on a slope) so if they are under the floorboards - they may destroy the timber..

I'd still try the spray (or even powder) at the airbrick in the first instance. If you or your wife can't do it, why not post to your local facebook page (assuming you have one), or ask a neighbour, to see if someone is willing to come round and spray/sprinkle on your behalf.

Unless its already a big nest, I think doing it via insurance could still cost you, even if it does not impact your NCD. eg, even if you don't claim, your request could still be logged by the insurance company, and you may have to include that fact on future renewals, both of which could also increase future premiums.

Read the insurance documents.... It'll be on there if Excess applies etc.,.
Aviva Home Emergency cover is an addon that might provide this service 'for free' with no excess to pay...
    see
    https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/home-products/home-insurance/pest-control/
    and
    https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/home-products/home-insurance/

but find your insurance documents to be certain.

Ultimately the OP has to read their own policy as Home is less uniform in these things than say Motor

It typically wont be covered by Home but can be covered by Home Emergency which is often an add on to Home or can be built in on higher products. Typically it wont count as a "Claim" on Home insurance and wouldnt need to be declared in the future... confused.com only has the options of Buildings and Contents if you say you've made a claim and so its fairly universal.

Very few insurers have a concept of NCD for Home and the rules vary significantly. This is definitely one the OP would need to check their policybook on... looking at the standard Aviva policy it makes no reference to NCD and therefore doesnt use it so nothing to be impacted.
