UK Cheque how to cash in Aus

Hi, my husband and myself have received cheques from the Inland Revenue ( refunds).
No bank will cash them as they no longer deal with foreign cheques.
I’ve tried to contact IR on the phone but after a wait of 1 hour I still did not speak to anyone, email is not allowed, they will not electronically transfer the money, we do not have a uk bank account.
Any advice gladly taken.
Thank you

Do you have a UK bank account?  Many apps allow scanning of cheques for deposit.   Or can you post them to someone back in the UK?  Or post them to your UK bank?

Unfortunately if you don't have a UK bank account your options are limited. This is a UK forum so unlikely many people will know the best place to cash a UK cheque in Aus so maybe an expat forum over there might be able to help?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

*HMRC. A quick Google throws up a Reddit thread from five months ago where people are having the same problem. Someone there suggests Great Southern Bank.

Another way would be a refined internet search, such as restricting results to the Australian domain .au. Quick and dirty, this throws up Mystate bank and HSBC seem to accept them.
