My IHD with EDF didn't activate in the first 2 weeks.  I tried it again the other day for a couple of days and it didn't trigger.   However, I have a Bright third party IHD which is so much better for data purposes.

A bit off topic but - if an IHD has already been supplied and is working with the electricity supply, is the gas fitter responsible for establishing a connection with the gas meter that is going to be fitted some 7 months later on behalf of a different supplier??

Technically, the supplier is responsible under the Smart Meter Installation Code of Practice.  As a new gas meter has to connect to the existing communications hub to work (via the existing HAN) then, once the gas meter is connected and commissioned, gas usage should appear on your IHD.

When I transferred to EDF at the start of this year the gas meter didn't transfer over and supply readings to them for a whole three months. During this time my remote box was reporting it was still registered with SSE. I supplied EDF a couple of actual readings and got bills based on these but EDF didn't really seem worried. It can take ages and ages for changes to happen with the DCC meter network. Just sit and wait is my advice.

My smart meter was sending reading, IHD had correct tariff when I was with EON switched to EDF and now its not working no longer sending readings and is still showing EONs old tariff.
Contacted EDF on numerous occasions and they just fob you off even  2 years later it was still same. Surprisingly switched to Octopus and within 2 weeks of the switch it working again.

Thank you for all the replies, experiences here are not very encouraging, though. I don't mind giving EDF meter readings, more worried about them doing the switch correctly in the billing (old meters ending with proper readings, new meters starting from zero readings).

The wan on the leccy meter is flashing every 5 seconds and EDF website says they are getting my leccy readings. The problem seems to be gas meter not talking to communications hub. The indoors gizmo thingy which I keep in the kitchen is reading both data.

Not very reliable this technology.I lived on the continent and meter readings were installed, the system there sends data via the grid. Britain opted for inferior technology, I can only guess some politicians were able to make money that way.

If the IHD is showing gas usage then your gas meter is connected to the communications hub. I think what is needed here is patience. Final commissioning of smart meters can take a couple of weeks.

Sure Dolor. it's just that both meters were already working  for a couple of days over the month end, according to EDF. But now the gas one has dropped off the cliff.

If your meters have been updated on your account then there’s no reason to worry about the readings. Final and initial reads are added in this process.

So the smart meters are still not working, they wanted to have the readings entered online. Gas actual usage is 0.7 something, so I tried to enter 1 because last time 0 did not work, now 1 is not accepted either.

It's very frustrating when  a company one deals with is so utterly stupid and useless.
