I have "Now tv" broadband with anytime calls (landline) for £20 month.

I have just had e-mail from them saying my contract is coming to an end (8 August) and offering me a new contract at £43 per month
How can they justify a jump of £20 to £43?

I have no intention of taking up this "offer" but if I were to take it up today I would also lose over 1 month of my present contract as the new one would start today.

I have been a customer with now for 3 years and each time have had to phone up  (annoyingly) to get a better deal but not sure if it will work this time.

So glad I came on this board.  I am new to this forum but am having exactly the same problem as you.  Just got off the phone to them a while ago and no joy.
I have been with them 3.5 years and paid £22.99 per month for broadband.  Now it has jumped to £40 and next month £43.50 BUT i had no notification from them.  I have all of the previous years renewal emails but somehow (?) this years never arrived.  They have sent me a copy and it states if I do nothing then it will remain at £22.99 per month.  The reason why they are claiming the new £40 a month is the fact that they say if I look at the small writing at the bottom of page 2 of their email it says that price ends in June 2023.  So from May 2023 they claim that my monthly payment is £22.99 but then in small tiny writing says this is until June 2023?  It is exactly the same wording as all the other renewal notices over the years so expected my payment to stay the same.  I did receive notification of a £3.50 increase from July (cost living rise) so knew about that!
They are very underhand and quite aggressive on the phone and just insist they are doing nothing wrong.
However, by law as they are offering a service they need to show CLEARLY up front what they are charging and they have not done that.
I raised a complaint about this unlawful procedure but heard nothing from them for about a month (I had sent several communications) until they sent me an email today claiming that the Complaint was closed and they hoped I was satisfied. What an absolute joke of a company.
    To the Ombudsman I go.

Apparently,  as I have recently found out,  that is now the case.  I have always just rolled over and the email I was supposedly sent (they had to send me a copy months later) was worded exactly the same as in my previous 2 or 3 years of just rolling.  However, now they have surreptitiously on page two, in small writing put a date that the price quoted ends.  Mine was showing as the rolling amount from May 2023 but then it was only until June 2023 - according to NowTV.  A very underhand way to supposedly get away with a price rise.
I am going to the Ombudsman about this as their price increase is definitely NOT shown clearly.

try thinking about it from the point of view that you current offer is discounted and the £43 is the normal price. How did they justify the discount from £43 > £20? One answer is to gain new customers. Once the discount period is over, either renegotiate or leave - same as any other service provider.

Do you work for NowTV?  You sound very like some of the people at NowTV who I have had to phone over the past few weeks or their, what I consider, underhand price increases.

Except it's not a price increase but the end of your discount which they did advise you of. The fact that you didn't bother reading it is your problem. The ombudsman will just rightly ignore your complaint.

I'm in the same boat, missed the email about the price increase, will be calling them and switching to the PAYG call package to get the monthly cost to around £25
