Yup. All done in a couple of minutes. At least it's a slick process.

Sainsbury's take note! Particularly the use of email rather than posting out wads of documentation each time.

I'd add Tesco to that but their rates have been uncompetitive for some time so irrelevant at the moment.

Usually it's quick to change to the new issue but been trying to change today. And it has still not opened the new account does it open on weekends or should I just wait till Monday and try again

At times it's a bit slower. It took a couple of hours yesterday evening. And yes it does work at weekends.

It took me about 5 minutes to open the new account and transfer the money.

Did mine Friday night and it was the slowest I've ever known. Did the OH's this morning and it was instantaneous.

When you 'close and transfer' the old issue to the new one the capital plus interest accrued to date moves across. So you get the interest now as WhoisDannie says plus it compounds at the new interest rate.

I applied for my fast track yesterday about 6pm and it's still not opened now, very delayed and never had this wait before

I'd wait - I had the same as you, and applied again thinking I had made a mistake -  and ended up with 2 accounts! Ok easy to close but just another thing to do

Happened to me a few times - took about 3 hrs to come through other time takes seconds. 

this is now more than a day though.

In any case I got fed up waiting and applied again, and the new one is open. I can see at least something happened about the first application as the new open account number is +2 over my last account.
