Does she have a banking app that allows you to pay in cheques by taking photos?
    That's probably the easiest.
If not you can pay it into her bank either in branch, or hy post office, or some even order it by bank machine.
She don’t have a uk mainstream account ,

can I do this at a post office for her? With written consent
Does your mother have any UK accounts at all? Some savings accounts will accept cheque deposits (not all, but some). How does she receive any other UK income?

If not, your only option is for your mother to write to the DVLA asking if they can re-issue the cheque payable to you. I do not know whether they will agree to do this.

The suggestion of cheque cashing shops/pawnbrokers is probably a waste of time. They probably won't accept a cheque like this without the payee being present, and if they do they'll charge a fee which will make a £45 cheque unviable.

If you attempt to pay this into your own bank account, there is a (admittedly small) risk that you could be accused of fraud. Personally this is not a risk I'd be willing to take for the sake of £45.

you cannot cash a cheque payable to someone else

one option would be to put it in an envelope and post it to her bank and ask them to pay it into her account
  • Does your mother receive benefits or state pension? If so she will almost certainly have a bank account, otherwise how does she live day to day without one, paying utilities etc?

Is this a refund for overpaid vehicle excise duty/road tax. Suggests your mum has or had a vehicle, lives here and I assume must be receiving some form of pension or benefits or wage.

I just don't understand how you can run a car - or live here - but not have a bank account or savings account?

she’s very unwell cannot walk at the moment hence why I’m asking if I can cash it  in on her behalf

You cannot cash it. It MUST be paid into an account in your mother's name.

Details of how to do that are in th link posted by pramsay13

If you type "think money pay in cheque" into Google then the first link is the one that pramsay13 posted which gives you an address to post it to. Im not sure why you didn't do that to begin with.

The OP has 'history' here - this seems to be another post that's going to go in a similar direction ;)
