Some tariffs require you to have the smart meter fitted before they will let you switch.The government wants everyone to have a smart meter by 2025. Octopus have an effective smart meter team and a good back-office service.Fitting a smart meter will also allow you access to Octopus's innovative tariffs, which have generally (but not always) worked out cheaper than the SVT.

It strikes me as similar to the banks inducing people to go digital by offering the best interest rates if go online. Probably inevitable we will all end up with smart meters!0
