Ordered lots of stuff from Play.com most has arrived. One item has not and the site just syas it has been despatched but I have to wait 21 days before it is officially lost in post. Too late for Christmas.
  • I ordered a pool table for £259 on a website with guarenteed xmas delivery if the order was placed before 5pm on weds. I placed the order @ 4.50pm and then called to confirm it only to go through to an answerphone. I got an email the next day at 10.50am saying all the couriers were booked so I couldnt have it and when i said about the guarenteed delivery they said I had placed the order with 'only minutes to spare' and basically I couldnt have but i could have a lighter one if I want but I had to reply before 12pm! I didnt even get the email till I got home at 4ish that night as they didnt bother to try my mobile number either.

I also ordered a dvd boxset from amazon when it was on offer at the beginning of Nov by start of december it still hadnt been despatched so I had to cancel that and order from hmv.

Online shopping is ok but its certainly by no means perfect or stress free.

    Hi there

A journalist from the Telegraph is writing an article about people buying goods for Christmas online and them not arriving in time.

When is he planning to publish it?
  • I am a bit upset with John Lewis/City Link at the moment and unsure how to proceed next.

I ordered on 14 December - in plenty of time for Christmas - a digital radio for my husband along with 2 other small items. These arrived via City Link on 18 December, no sign of my radio. I spent about an hour on the phone on Friday 22 December as still no sign of my radio. Firstly I rang John Lewis who gave me City Link's telephone number. AFter waiting an age to even get through (as engaged), spent another age waiting for a reply once did get through. Discovered my parcel had been sitting in City Link Depot since 18 December. Then had to ring the actual Depot to try and find out why it was sitting there. Eventually got through and could not get a satisfactory answer and was told to ring John Lewis again.

Rang John Lewis, spoke to a very helpful guy. By this time I was seriously stressed and hoping for some help. He rang City Link and was assured that my radio would be on the Saturday delivery and would arrive between 9am and 3pm. Still no sign now.

Rang John Lewis again at 3.30pm would could not help as the City Link office was closed (closed at 12noon today) and they have said that someone from John Lewis will ring me on Monday to confirm whether it will be delivered by then - though they will not be able to ring me until between 11 and 12noon.

Currently I am without my Husband's Christmas present, which I bought in plenty of time for Christmas. The money has been debited out of my account and I have no goods. John Lewis can't guarantee delivery on Monday so I could be without a present for my husband. I have a 9 month old baby who sleeps between 12-2.30pm as well as 2 other children. I don't want to leave the house on Monday morning in case I miss the delivery / phone call but from what I gather around here most shops seem to be closing at about 3pm so I will have no time to get him a present from anywhere else.

As you may gather, I am rather stressed about the whole thing and very disappointed with John Lewis who I thought would be much more reliable than this.

Any advice on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.
